Richard V. Juluson (Dick) passed from this life peacefully on November 12, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. His cause of death was congestive heart failure.
Dick was born on August 15, 1936 to Francis M. (Bill) and Evelyn Vernon Juluson at Rockport, Utah. He was raised in Hoytsville, Utah where he had fond memories of working on the farm with his parents and Grandpa and Grandma Juluson. Dick graduated from North Summit High School in 1954 where he played star center on the basketball team and participated in other extracurricular activities. He was awarded a basketball scholarship at Weber College where he obtained his Associate of Science degree in 1956.
Dick graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy in 1959. He was employed at Primary Children’s Medical Center for twenty-eight years and retired as Manager of the Central Pharmacy in 1996.
As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Dick served faithfully in various callings. One of his most enjoyable was taking the Scouts on 50 mile hikes in the High Uinta Mountains.
Dick had great respect for God and country and served in the U.S. Military as a member of the Utah National Guard with the 144th EVAC Hospital. He was called to active duty to Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri for one year during the Berlin Crisis.
He was very much involved in basketball and baseball in his younger days. Dick greatly enjoyed coaching his sons and was elected president of the South Davis Little League in baseball.
Dick married Merlene Vernon in the Salt Lake Temple on September 11, 1958. High school sweethearts, they were devoted to one another and were never far from one another’s side. Merlene also worked at Primary Children’s Hospital and they cherished the 17 years they rode together to work. Dick and Merlene had many fun memories during their retirement years in their R.V. They enjoyed being “snowbirds” in Arizona and California in the winter months and short summer “get-a-ways” in Utah. The two walked through life together for sixty-two years before Dick’s passing.
This union was blessed with five children: Denise (Ray) Farnes, Layne V. Juluson, Steven V. Juluson, Richard Dee (Becky) Juluson, Michon (Joe) Mackey. Dick was affectionately known as “Popsie” and “Gramps” to his thirteen grandchildren (Michael, Michele, Bayley, Jessica, Katelin, Trevis, Taylon, Chanelle, Jessica, Cameron, Bailey, Steele and Brenner) and two great-grandchildren (Brylee and Kayden).
As a devoted family man he watched over his wife and children with the utmost love and sacrifice. Extended family members, his mother, his wife’s parents, and his uncle and aunt were also the recipients of this kind and compassionate man’s dedicated service.
Dick was a man of great integrity, honor, and character. He was one to always give the benefit of the doubt and looked for the positive in others. He was liked by all.
In addition to his wife and children, Dick is survived by his sister Frances Petersen and brother John C. (CayLyn) Juluson.
The family would like to thank the caregivers at Rocky Mountain Hospice for their loving care.
