Richard Ernest Henrichsen

Richard Ernest Henrichsen, born on March 18, 1940 in Reno, Nevada passed away on August 12, 2017 in Salt Lake City, Utah.  Richard was the son of Ernest and Afton Henrichsen. 

He graduated from high school in Ankara, Turkey, and attended the University of Maryland, Munich Germany campus.  Following his mission in the West German Mission he graduated from the University of Maryland and was commissioned into the United States Army.  While stationed in Germany, he met his future wife Carla Meijer at the Munich Servicemen’s Branch.  They were married on August 6, 1968 in the Bern Switzerland Temple and just celebrated their 49th Anniversary. 

Following his service in the US Army, including service in Vietnam, he settled in Maryland where he worked for the Federal Government until his retirement in 2003.  While doing this he completed his Master’s Degree in Hospital Administration.  Following his retirement, he moved to Centerville, Utah with his wife.  He was active in the community including serving on the board of the Whitaker Museum and as a service missionary in the LDS Employment Center.  His greatest joy was serving with his wife as a docent at the LDS Church History Museum.  He enjoyed traveling, studying church history and spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren.

He loved the opportunity to travel all over the world with his wife and friends.  One of the highlights was a trip to the Holy Land.  He had always hoped to return. 

He is survived by his wife Carla, his children Richard E. Henrichsen (JoAnn), Christopher T. Henrichsen (Lyndee) and Britt Henrichsen Mageras (Mark); 11 grandchildren (Trey, Hart, Susie, Nate, Annie, Todd, Shem, Geneva, Megan, Abby, Emily) and two sisters Christine Willis (Bert) and Colleen Henrichsen.  He was preceded in death by his granddaughter Sarahlyn Henrichsen and his parents. 

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 18, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Porter Lane 2nd Ward, 436 W Porter Lane, Centerville.  A viewing will be held before the service, from 9:30-10:45 a.m.
