Richard William Kieffer, 79 of Bountiful, Utah, passed away Wednesday, August 30, 2017, after a courageous battle with cancer. Richard was born November 19, 1937, to Raymond Urban and Ruth Sisson Kieffer in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Richard attended the University of Denver. Soon after, Richard started his career in banking with American National Bank in 1956. American National was an affiliate of Western Bancorp. In 1960, Richard transferred to Western Bancorp's affiliate, Walker Bank & Trust Co., which later took the name of First Interstate Bank of Utah. Richard worked his way up the corporate ladder and was named President and CEO of First Interstate Bank of Utah.
Richard was heavily involved in the community. He served as the Chairman for the steering committee for the Cathedral of the Madeleine restoration campaign. He also proudly served as the Chairman for the Economic Development Corporation of Utah. Richard also served on many other boards including Ballet West, Utah Symphony, Crimson Club, Honorary Colonels, and Downtown Alliance.
He married the love of his life Lorna Coates in 1965, and had three children, Steven, Kimberly, and Douglas.
Richard loved golfing at the Salt Lake Country Club with his friends known as the "Lost Ballers". He also loved meeting his friends regularly for coffee at Einstein's Bagels. Richard was very passionate about college football. He especially loved cheering for the University of Utah football team.
Richard is survived by his wife Lorna; his sisters, Rae Ann, Jean, Joan and Gail; his children Steven (Susie), Kimberly (Mike), and Douglas; his grandchildren, Colby, Katie, Dylan, Taylor, Haylee, Kylee, Kelsey; and three great-grandchildren. Richard is preceded in death by his parents and grandson Alex.
A viewing will be held Wednesday, September 6, 2017, at Russon Brothers Mortuary located at 295 North Main Street Bountiful, Utah from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Richard will be laid to rest at 11:30 a.m. following the viewing at a graveside service at the Bountiful Cemetery located at 2224 South 200 West Bountiful, Utah.
