Biography

Richard Smith Prows (Dick), our beloved father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather, passed away peacefully August 10, 2014. He was born on July 22, 1927 in Lyman, Wyoming to Joseph Henry and Florence Smith Prows. He was the eldest of 7 children. He fell in love with his high school sweetheart, Geraldine Taylor Rhodes. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple in 1947. They raised 5 children in Bountiful, Utah.
Dick’s passions included architectural design and development in real estate, including residential homes, condominiums and other commercial developments. Dick and Bob Wood formed Prowswood companies about 50 years ago. Dick had a passion to see that today’s youth be educated for the purpose of preparing them for the “world of work.” He loved being involved and contributing to the success of Junior Achievement and Discovery Gateway of Utah. He contributed to many other philanthropic organizations as well, and received many honors for his dedicated service to others in the community and business world. He had a thirst for learning and wanted to share that with everyone! He enjoyed snow and water skiing into his later years, utilizing new technology, reading, painting, movies and dinner with close friends and family and corresponding with his email pals. He looked forward to gathering with his siblings every month.
He was an active member in the LDS Church serving in many callings and had a testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
He is survived by his children, Susan Karr (Bobbie), Joan Fuhriman (Mark), Becky Hoskins (Joe), John Prows (Cher), best friend, Lillian Garrett, 32 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild, and 6 siblings, Carolyn Clawson, Ron Prows (Elaine), Joe Prows (Carma), Bobbie Prows (Sandra), Kathy Haslam, Mary Ann Swalberg (Dave). He was preceded in death by his wife, Gerri, son Rick, childhood friend and cousin, Harvey Glade.
Dad was the most positive, friendly, happy man you could ever meet. He made everyone he came in contact with feel like they were somebody special. He will truly be missed by many. We love you Dad.
