Our beloved father, grandfather, brother, son uncle and husband Richard Steven Dayhuff was called back to his heavenly home on Jan 13,2021. He passed away at his home in South Jordan Utah surrounded by his family. He was born on February 20, 1954 at the USAH Tooele Military Depot in Tooele Utah. Richard who was known as Steven by all who knew him was the son of Retired Marine Colonel Richard William Dayhuff and Myrle Ann McDermaid. He was the second of 8 children.
Steven and Terry Peterson were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on March 16, 1976. They were blessed with 5 children in their 45 years of marriage as well as 2 sons in law, 3 daughters in law and 20 grandchildren. His family was his life and meant everything to him. Terry was his eternal love and sweetheart. He was constantly finding ways to show her his love for her. He loved spending time with his kids and grandkids. He looked for opportunities to spend one on one time with them. He always had jokes and brought laughter into the room. His sense of humor lives on in his kids and grandkids. His family extended to many others though. He loved many who crossed his path as though they were his family.
He was highly intelligent and excelled at everything he did. He had many talents and abilities. One of those was music. He loved music. He played the Trumpet, Electric Piano, Piano, Organ, and Guitar. He had music playing constantly and enjoyed all genres. He loved to share his love of music with all. He always had an answer to a question no matter what. His advice was sought after and cherished by family, friends, and coworkers.
His membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints meant so much to him. He believed in and had a strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. He served a 2 year mission in Brazil and magnified his love for the gospel by sharing it with others. It was a great highlight of his life. He served in many leadership callings within the church including but not limited to Ward Bishopric, Stake Young Mens Presidency, Scout Master, Young Mens, Temple Prep Teacher, and Temple Worker. He took his callings seriously and magnified them with all his heart. He loved to share his testimony and looked for opportunities to do so.
Steven had a love for Scouting. He participated in and served in it for nearly 50 years. He was an Eagle Scout and received other recognitions in scouting such as the district merit of honor. He was also nominated for the Silver Beaver. He served on the board as a commissioner over leadership training. He believed in scouting and its character building traits. He taught and exemplified them. Many of the young men whom he taught and interacted with are grateful for the fatherly influence he had in their lives. He loved camping and everything about it. Rain, Heat or Snow did not make it less fun.
He was a hero and a giant of a man. He will be missed greatly by many. He is survived by his wife Terry Peterson; children Tanya Deon Butterfield (Jason), Marci Lynn Clegg (Blaine), Richard Michael Dayhuff (Alisa), Christopher Ryan Dayhuff (Heidi), Ashton Jon Dayhuff (Rebecca), their 20 grandchildren, his mother Myrle Ann McDermaid Dayhuff, his 7 siblings; Kathy Fairbanks (Robert), Craig Dayhuff, David Dayhuff (Ruth), Laraine Moon (Bill), Neil Dayhuff, Elizabeth Beal (Sam), Annette Ludlow (Jed).
