Ricky James Long

Ricky James Long, 56, husband, father, son, brother and loyal friend returned to the mountains in the sky on October 24, 2021. After a life long battle with heart disease which resulted in multiple surgeries and complications over his lifetime resulting in the need for a heart and double lung transplant last year. Unfortunately his body was unable to fully recover and give him the quality of life that he deserved.
Ricky was born on October 12, 1965 in Ogden, Utah to Dennis and Eyvonne Long. Ricky grew up in Clearfield, Utah alongside his three brothers, Russell, Randy, and Roy. They enjoyed playing football in the streets and driving their mother crazy like young boys do. Childhood adventures grew into a love of the mountains, hunting,
fishing, camping and muscle car restoration and racing.
After graduating from Clearfield High School in 1985, Ricky attended Arizona Automotive Institute and earned a trade certificate in Auto Mechanics. This projected him into a life long career in the Tire and Automotive industry. He loved working on cars, especially his own. Throughout his life he collected and restored numerous classis cars. He loved racing and participating in car shows.
He met and fiercely fell in love with his “Dream Weaver”, Julie Haacke, while servicing her car. They were married on November 21, 1992. They were blessed with a daughter, Cassidy Jade in April 1994 and a son, Tucker James in February 1998. Together they were sealed as a family for Time and All Eternity on March 12, 1999 in the Salt Lake City Temple.
Ricky’s “happy place” was the mountains. He loved being outdoors with his family and friends. Hunting season was his FAVORITE season. He loved sharing his knowledge of hunting and fishing with his kids, and being a mentor to others. He loved going on Alaskan fishing trips with his best buddies, four-wheeling, cooking on a Camp Chef, making Sunday roasts and smoking meat on the Traeger. Going on tropical vacations and cruises with his family, and going to Lorena’s for smothered burritos any chance he got.
He was an avid lover of Classic Rock and Old Country Music, he enjoyed going to concerts and rockin’ out with his whole heart. And singing in the car at the top of his lungs with his wife and kids.
Ricky is survived by his wife, Julie Haacke Long, their two children Cassidy (Jacob Wolin) and Tucker Long (Sammy Million) and “little sister in-law”, Stephanie Haacke. Parents Dennis and Eyvonne Long. Brothers, Russell Long (Debbie), Randy Long (Dawn) and Roy Long (Jerrica). The Haacke family and many other loving family members and friends (like SO many).
The family will welcome visitors Friday, October 29, 2021 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Russon Mortuary located at 1941N. Main Street, Farmington, Utah. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 30, 2021 at 11:00 am at the Quail Crossing Ward at 2230 South 350 East, Kaysville, Utah where a viewing will be held from 9:45 am-10:45 am prior to services.
The Long family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to all of the doctors, nurses, and medical staff at Stanford Medical Center (Palo Alto, CA), Intermountain Medical Center Heart Clinic, and the University of Utah Hospital and Lung Transplant Clinic. It has been a long and rough road but we are grateful for all of the care you have given Ricky along this journey.
We have appreciated all the prayers, good thoughts, positive energy and everything offered both spiritually and financially his way. We love all of you!
