January 8, 1929 ~ September 13, 2017 ?Bountiful UT — Robert "Bob" Joffs, 88, passed away peacefully in the company of his family on Wednesday, September 13, 2017. ?Born in Park City UT to Eric and Emma Joffs, the third of six children. He spent his early years fishing, hunting, and working in the mines. Robert attended BYU where he graduated with a Major in Physics and Minor in Math. While at BYU, he was baptized a member of the LDS Church and one year later married the love of his life, Janice Millerberg, in the Salt Lake Temple on March 24, 1953. After graduation, Robert joined the Navy and was stationed in Portsmouth VA. Upon completion of his service, they moved to Corona CA where he worked as a physicist at the Naval Ordinance Lab. In 1965, Robert took a job as an electrical engineer at Hill Air Force Base and moved the family back home to Utah where he built their dream home in the Bountiful foothills.
During the course of his life, Robert was a devout member of the church and served selflessly in callings that included Bishopric, YM President, Stake Athletic Director, Bountiful Temple worker, and Scoutmaster (with the patience of Job). He also spent countless years doing genealogical extraction work. One year he set a goal of entering 30,000 names…and achieved it. Professionally, Robert was proud of his contributions to the Minuteman Missile defense system, lithium battery development, and wind power generation. Outside of work and church service, Robert was usually found golfing, fishing, or gardening. He achieved a hole-in-one twice, re-imagined beer-battered fish using 7-Up, and cultivated the richest mulch pile in Bountiful. Robert was quick to be of service to family, neighbors, and friends with a hammer, snow blower, or repair job of one type or another—“If Dad couldn’t fix it, it couldn’t be fixed.”
Robert was preceded in death by one son, Bryan, and is survived by his wife, Janice; four children– Vicki (Scott) Garbutt, Carolee (Daren) Gulbransen, Darren (Amy) Joffs, and Brandon (Lori) Joffs; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Eric (Shirley) Joffs.
“Dad, we will be eternally grateful for your example of dedication to your sweetheart, your family, and your Heavenly Father, for honoring your Priesthood, and for patiently enduring to the end. You have set the bar very high for a strong work ethic, integrity, and service to others. We’re so proud of you and look forward to the day we’ll be reunited as a forever family—we’ll just listen for your laugh.”
