Robert Cox

Biography

Robert Dewey Cox passed away at home on the beautiful snowy morning of January 11, 2013, while doing what he loved most, working. He was born March 9, 1927 in Lilley Orchard, Jackson, Mississippi to William Duran Cox and Florin Jennie Goff. He was the 7th of 9 children, the 4th of 5 sons. The family moved to Mobile County, Alabama in 1929 where he grew up. Graduated from high school June 1944, enlisted in the US Navy January 1945 and was sent to the Philippines where he was training to make the invasion of Japan when the war ended. Was discharged April 1946, re-enlisted April 1947, attended electronics school in Treasure Island near San Francisco, California. Went aboard the USS Princeton aircraft carrier and was sent to Korea. Was hospitalized in Honolulu Hawaii August 1951, discharged March 1952. Married Veon Hutchings April 4, 1952 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Attended the U of U 1952-56 in Marketing Sales and Research. He went back to school 1961 for a teaching certificate. Began teaching 1962 at South Davis Jr. High in Bountiful where he worked till June 1995. His wife Veon passed away October 1993, he married Carolyn Hutchings June 1995.
Worked in Salt Lake Temple for years, enjoyed Family Search as well. Owned and operated a landscaping business from 1964 through 2004.
He enjoyed all kinds of work and had many outstanding friends and associates.
Preceded in death by parents, 4 sisters, 3 brothers, his wife Veon and son, Stephen.
Survived by wife Carolyn; daughters, Susan and Julie; sons, Duran and Dan; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon, Thursday, January 17, 2013 at the West Bountiful 3rd Ward, 840 North 800 West. A viewing will be held Wednesday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main and Thursday morning 10:45-11:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment-Bountiful City Cemetery.
