Robert George Barnett

Robert George Barnett (84) born July 9,1935 in Downey, California to Harold and Pearl Gilliland Barnett, passed away September 14, 2019 in Salt Lake City, Utah from symptoms of Respiratory Failure incident to Alzheimers. Bob grew up in Downey, California where he graduated high school. He served in the United States Navy on the USS Taylor during the Korean War. His military service held a lifelong place in his heart. He married Barbara Hewitt and they had 2 children: Debbie and Rob. Bob and Barbara later divorced. He moved to Utah and married Marlene Cottle in 1975. He chose a career as a tradesman in the fire sprinkler industry where he worked for approximately 35 years. He and Marlene enjoyed boating, riding 4 wheelers and the time they spent traveling with friends and each other. His heart softened after many years and he chose to investigate the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He joined the church in 2009 and was sealed to Marlene in the Bountiful Temple in 2010.
He is survived by his wife, Marlene; children: Debbie (Larry) Jackson, Rob (Lynn) Barnett; brother, Alvin Barnett; step-children: Steven (Dee Ann) Cottle, Kent (Tammy) Cottle, Michael (Jennifer) Cottle, Michelle (Cory) Hanks, Julie (Gary) Merrick; 19 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 24, 2019 at the Bountiful 20th Ward, 102 East 1400 South. A viewing will be held Monday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful and Tuesday morning 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church prior to services.
