Robert Holbrook Gerrard, age 83, returned to his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, July 16, 2013. Born April 21, 1930 as a twin to Thomas L. Gerrard and Ruth Holbrook. As he would say it, Bob spelled forward and backward the same way, was a kind, loving, sweet, fun loving and humorous Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather. He gave his love without reservation to all who crossed his path. His kindness was noted on a daily basis by all those who took loving care of him. Bob graduated from Granite High School and attended the University of Utah. He truly loved those running Utes and had many fun bets with family and friends over who was the best team in the state and of course we know it’s the Utes. He was an avid Utah Jazz fan. He honorably served his country in the Army during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Air Force reserves where he retired after 35 years of service to his country. He worked at Utah Power and Light, designing power substations. He met and married Pauline Adelle Platt, October 1956 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Pauline passed away after only seven short years of marriage. Together they had two daughters. Bob met Marlene Jensen and married her in the Salt Lake LDS Temple and they added another daughter to their family. Bob and Marlene were happily married for 49 wonderful years. Bob loved to fish and hunt. He wrote poetry and loved wood carving and building models. He was a constant source of humor and jokes and you never left a conversation with him without a smile – He made sure of that. He was a true and faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a mission in the Hawaiian Islands. He also served a mission for the Church and designed canneries all over the world. He held many other callings serving in two bishoprics and serving as an ordinance worker in the Salt Lake and Bountiful Temples. The calling he loved the most was serving with his wife Marlene in the Nursery where they grew to love many young people in their wards. He loved and enjoyed the little children, who over the years grew up and became wonderful adults. Bob’s kindness and love will be truly missed by everyone he touched in his life. He is preceded in death by his Father, Mother, brother Chan, and twin brother, Richard. He is survived by his loving wife, Marlene; his three daughters: Ellen (Mike) Morando, Adele (Willie, deceased), Clark, LeAnn (Greg) Gibson; 7 grandsons; 1 grand-daughter; and 2, soon to be 3 great-grandsons.
