Robert Harold Beckstead, an honorable and beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend returned to his Heavenly Father on Friday, April 23, 2021. Bob was born February 9, 1943 to Richard LeRoy and Ada May Beckstead. He grew up on the avenues in Salt Lake City, Utah and enjoyed being surrounded by grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. Bob has rich memories of his childhood playing outdoors, raising magpies, catching lizards, raising fish, dogs and anything he could catch. Bob enjoyed listening to the Salt Lake Bees AA Baseball team on his transistor radio and quickly developed a deep love and passion for sports, especially the Utah Jazz.
Bob was taught at an early age how to work hard and to be careful with his money. He had a job from the time he was ten years old and all through high school. The year he graduated from East High, and turned eighteen, he got a job at Mountain Fuel (Questar) and spent his entire working career there. He holds the company record for the longest tenured employee at 52 years of service. A record that most likely will never be broken.
Bob married his best friend and sweetheart, Lene Thomassen on October 14, 1961. They were sealed in the Salt Lake City temple and blessed with 6 beautiful children, Bobby, Brenda, Mike, Mindy, Amber and Brooke.
Shortly after their marriage, Bob and Lene moved to Bountiful, Utah where they decided to raise their family and lay down roots. They loved family camping trips and enjoyed spending time in the outdoors fishing and hunting, or at least the Beckstead boys did. Bob was an avid runner and ran a 3 hour and 21 minute St. George Marathon. When he stopped running later in life, Bob enjoyed long walks up City Creek Canyon or along Bountiful Boulevard.
Bob was known for his selfless service and was a caretaker all his life. He cared for his mother after his father’s death when he was just 16 years old, he tenderly cared for Lene while recovering from various surgeries, he cleaned the neighbors walks and driveways after snow storms, and lovingly cared for his dogs over the years. Bob also served with Lene as a service missionary at the Bishops storehouse in Salt Lake City for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Those that had the pleasure of calling Bob husband, father, grandfather, family or friend will forever carry with them his love, laughter, smile, generosity, and undying love for his family. He was proud of the family he helped create and will continue to watch over them.
Bob is survived by his devoted wife, Lene, his son, Bobby(Shara) Beckstead, daughter, Brenda (Casey) Mills, son, Mike(Jodi) Beckstead, daughter, Mindy (Matt) Rogers, daughter, Amber (Mike) Dehner, daughter, Brooke(Steve)Hiatt; 30 grandchildren and 16 great- grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Ada May, father, Richard LeRoy, brother, Richard L, and sister, Marilyn Butterfield.
