Robert Hasenyager

Some people don’t believe in HEROES, but they haven’t met my Dad. Bob Hasenyager passed away at home after waging a 14-month battle with renal cell carcinoma. Bob was the son of Clarence and Lois Hasenyager. He married Marlene J Minchey on April 17, 1976 and they were sealed for time and all eternity in the San Diego Temple December 8, 2012. Bob was especially proud of his two daughters, Kimber (Jayson) Scopel and Whitney Hasenyager, Rancho Cucamonga, CA and his grandson, Braxton Oliver Scopel.

Bob grew up in Illinois, but was a Utahn at heart. After graduating from Princeton High School, Bob spent the summer working for the US Forest Service in Kanosh, Utah. That led to a basketball scholarship at Dixie College. Knowing he wanted to pursue a career protecting wildlife and nature, Bob graduated with a Wildlife degree from Utah State University in 1975. Upon graduating from USU, he began his 35 year career working for the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources. He received his MBA from USU in 1988. He created UWIN, Utah Wildlife In Need, a Foundation whose purpose is to perpetuate wildlife species and natural places for future generations including the Great Salt Lake Nature Center at Farmington Bay.

Bob had many talents. One that he loved so much was coaching basketball. Bob coached many Jr. Jazz teams and competition teams that his daughters played on, Young Men’s LDS Church basketball teams, and the Viewmont High School Girls’ Basketball Team in 2010. Through this, he touched the lives of MANY young people including his own daughters. He loved being Coach Bob!! He was also a skilled wood-worker and handyman. His daughter Whitney recognized at an early age his talent, when she said, “Don’t worry Dad will fix it.” He had many happy moments working in his woodworking workshop.

Bob was an example of honesty, patience, fairness, and treating others with respect. He was an example of service, having served the community he called home as co-chair of Festival Days, Planning Commission member, and City Councilman. Bob loved fishing anywhere but especially Lake Powell, hiking, camping, and his family!!

Bob is survived by his wife, Marlene, his 2 daughters and his grandson, Braxton. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Steve Pillischafske.

Bob’s family would like to thank Dr. Junfeng Wang and the nurses at Huntsman Cancer Hospital for helping Bob fight the fight against cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am, Saturday, April 13, 2013, at the Farmington Utah South Stake Center 695 South 200 East. Friends and family may visit Friday, between 6 and 8 pm, at Russon Brothers Mortuary 1941 N. Main, Farmington, or Saturday, 9:30 to 10:30 am, at the church. Interment will be at the Farmington City Cemetery.
