Our dear husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Robert Lee Wulf, passed away on July 31, 2017, in Clearfield, Utah. Bob was born on February 28, 1932, in Eli, Nebraska, to Jesse Wilson Wulf and Dorothy Mae Goodrich. Bob grew up in towns along the Wasatch front, attending South High School in Salt Lake City where he participated in ROTC and led his rifle team to the championship. After graduating in 1948 at the age of 16, he joined the Navy, completed their electronics school in Memphis, and was stationed at the US Naval Air Station in Monterrey, California, and later in San Diego.
During the Korean War, he served as an Electronics Technician on an aircraft carrier. Following his naval service, Bob worked for the US Government in Logistics Management at Hill Air Force Base in Utah, Ramstein Air Base in Germany, Torrejón Air Base in Spain, and Elmendorf Air Force Base in Alaska. As a liaison with the Spanish and American Air Forces, he received the Air Medal of Merit from the Spanish Air Force. He also received the outstanding civilian career service medal for his work developing and implementing the silver recovery program for the US Air Force.
Upon retiring after 38 years of faithful and devoted federal service, he spent the summers in Alaska, camping and fishing on the Kenai River with his wife, Carrol, and their malamute dogs. He had a great love for his malamute dogs, Nikki, Abbie, Kimi, and Heidi, who were part of their family.
During his early years, he loved to go horseback riding in the mountains, and fishing and camping with his wife and children. For many years he enjoyed raising cows at his ranch along with horses, pigs, and sheep. He also maintained a large vegetable garden at the ranch and smaller gardens in his later years.
With an intense interest in and knowledge of history, particularly British and American history, Bob enjoyed visiting all of the Civil War sites with Carrol. While in Europe, he also traveled to many WWII battle sites. Bob was an avid reader of western novels and war and military related books. He read all the books he could find on British naval history, Civil War, World War I and II history. He was a man of many talents and hobbies and skillful at repairing or building anything he set his mind to. In his later years and spare time, he enjoyed building model ships.
Bob is survived by his wife, Carrol Bull Wulf of Clearfield, UT; his children Alisa Oram (Rick) of West Point, UT; Robert Lee Wulf, Jr. (Beth Ann) of Vancouver, WA; Carol Wulff (Phillip) of Eagle River, AK; and Christine Buys (Stevan) of McKinney, TX; his 8 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Karen Cutler (Ron).
