Robert Owen McClung peacefully slipped from mortality into eternity January 25, 2013. He fought a good fight with several debilitating diseases. The dear Lord in his tender mercies called him home before the dementia robbed him of all dignities.
Robert was born of goodly parents, Owen Spencer and Roxie Remington McClung of Cardston Alberta Canada. His early years were eventful with fishing Lees creek, hunting with his Dad and friends and helping with the construction of a beautiful cabin in Waterton National Park, leaving us all with fond memories and a beautiful legacy. He started working on construction at an early age and worked hard all his life.
Ramona Leishman of Hillspring his loving, devoted wife of 57 years, 6 children, 21 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren are his legacy. Robert pioneered the way for his family to become educated (all his children have college degrees), this was very important to him and he was their biggest cheerleader. Books were his best friend and he collected over 500 books for his library. Dearest to him are the scriptures and the church classics.
Roberts profession was that of an educator and teaching was the love of his life. He set the example and attended Ricks College, University of Utah, Brigham Young University, Utah Valley University, Bear University, University of Alberta completing a Doctorate Degree. He was an adjunct professor at three of the universities he attended. He was continually studying and when he and Ramona found a book they liked they bought two for studying together.
Throughout the Dementia Robert never did lose his testimony, his values and sense of humor. He was a delightful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend, brother and loyal son of our Father in Heaven. He served faithfully in his church callings as Secretary of the Stake Aaronic Priesthood, Sunday School Gospel Doctrine teacher, member of a Bishopric, Branch President of a University singles ward, High Councilman, dance instructor and many others.
Above all the great events and accomplishments in Roberts life nothing is more endearing than his family.
He is survived by his children: He taught them all to work hard but play hard too.
