Our Dad was welcomed into the arms of our Heavenly Father, his desire to return home was answered on Tuesday, June 28th 2016. .
Robert W. Bennett, Sr. was born on September 3, 1927 to Clarene DeSymes and Joseph "Temple" Bennett. He was a student at East and South High and faithfully attended every reunion so he could "catch up" with all of his many friends.
He married Janet Carolyn Grainger on December 12, 1951 which was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple.
Our Dad was a jovial man loved by many. He had a way of drawing people to him and also had a contagious laugh that could be heard from miles away. He adored all kinds of music but jazz was his favorite. He played a mean trumpet, had a voice like Nat King Cole and "fiddled" with the bass. He had his own band when he was younger, even making a record. Dad enjoyed singing in the church choir and often conducted as well. He loved his weekend dance jobs playing the trumpet, bass fiddle and singing; much to our Mother's dismay.
He had a gift for selling and became friends with all of his customers through the years. He was a true road warrior stopping at every small town to make a buck. Dad would keep us posted about his whereabouts by sending us postcards; to save a $1 he would cook in his room. He loved to be joined by his grandkids on the road stopping at parks to have lunch.
We will miss his laugh and "can I get you something to eat" every time we came to the house. If we declined we would get "Are ya sure?" "I just bought some cupcakes!"
Our Dad was one in a million-UNFORGETTABLE!
Dad, we were lucky to have you in our lives for as long as we did and every time we hear one of your songs – you will be by our side.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years Jan Bennett, 4 children; Debbie Leatham-Gray (Dana); Carolyn Lindsey; Bob Bennett, Jr. (Alex) and Scott Bennett; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchilden.
