Robert Mahlon Zumbrunnen, loving husband, father, grandfather and friend passed away with his family by his side on Thursday morning, November 10, 2022. He was 85 years old, one day shy of his birthday.
Bob grew up in Salt Lake City and was the fifth of six sons of Arnold and Mary Esther Zumbrunnen. He attended the University of Utah and graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering and later earned his Master's Degree, also from the "U". He worked for Sperry Univac where a cute redhead caught his eye. Pamla and Bob were married in the Logan Temple on March 19, 1965. The couple welcomed their first daughter Margo, followed by Renee, and then Blake. They made their home in Bountiful, Utah. Bob was a dedicated member of the LDS church and served several callings including Primary teacher and many years as ward clerk.
Professionally, he worked for Sperry Univac (later Unisys) for his entire career, which lasted 42 years before he retired in 2001. He traveled to London, Vienna, Marseille, Tokyo and domestically in his different roles at work.
Bob was a wonderful and loving husband to Pam. Her passing in 2014 was very difficult for him. He was an ever supportive and steady father. He had a quick wit and was very capable with all things engineering. He enjoyed being a grandfather and was always interested in their lives and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He was a good neighbor and loved being outside.
Bob enjoyed Yellowstone, the Teton Mountains and particularly Jenny Lake. He loved autumn leaves, picnics in Millcreek or Mueller Park canyons, and car rides. He was a Ute fan and enjoyed cheering on the basketball and football teams.
Bob is preceded in death by his beautiful wife of 49 years, Pam, his parents Arnold and Mary Esther, four of his brothers; Calvin, Lynn, Dale and Allen. He is survived by his children Margo (Steve) Hammond, Renee (Dave) Young, and Blake (Jenny) Zumbrunnen, six grandchildren, and one brother, Dean (Valeen).
Our family gives special thanks to the caring neighbors and church members who have been friends for many years. We also recognize and share enormous gratitude to Bob's loving caregiver, Kumi Talmage, who has become such a special person to Bob and our family.
