Rodney Marrelli

October 1, 1947 — October 30, 2010

Rodney George Marrelli, 63, passed away from complications following a long battle with cancer on October 30, 2010, in Bountiful, Utah. He was born October 1, 1947, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Ernest and Muriel Jones Marrelli. He attended schools in Salt Lake City and graduated from West High School in 1966, where he was active in sports, student government and band. Rod then served an LDS mission to the Eastern States Mission (Kentucky and Tennessee). Upon returning he attended and graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. He began his career with a public accounting firm in California and later returned to Salt Lake City where he became a CPA and worked for various companies in accounting and management. At the time of his death Rod was the Executive Director of the Utah State Tax Commission where he had many great and loving friends and co-workers. On June 22, 1978, he married his sweetheart, Nancy Taggart, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were blessed with two sons, Jonathan and Peter. They made their home and raised their children in Bountiful, Utah. Rod was a life long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many capacities including Young Mens Leader, Ward Executive Secretary, High Priest Group Leader, and member of his Stake High Council. His loving ward members provided him tremendous love and support through his illness. Rod had a gentle and kind nature. He loved giving service not only to his family but to friends and associates. He had a wonderful sense of humor, enjoyed reading, playing golf, and being with his family. He is survived by his sons, Jonathan and Peter (Amy) Marrelli; his father, Ernest Marrelli; his siblings: Ronald (Linda) Marrelli, Robyn Marrelli, and Roger Marrelli; and nieces and nephews who he greatly enjoyed. His wife, mother, grandparents and brother-in-law preceded him in death. Friends and family may call at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful, Utah on Wednesday, November 3, 2010 from 6-8 p.m. Interment and a graveside service will precede the funeral service on Thursday, November 4 at 9:00 a.m. at the South Morgan Cemetery,351 South State Street, Morgan, Utah The funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon at the Mueller Park Stake Center, 1800 East Mueller Park Road (1800 South), Bountiful where friends and family may visit with family members prior to the services from 10:45 – 11:45 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be sent to the Polycystic Kidney Foundation.
