Our Beloved Mother,Roene Shaffer Van Noy passed away July 23rd at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Preston Idaho March 25, 1929 the first born child to LeRoy Jessop Shaffer and Pearl Stocks. She is preceded in death by her Husband William Thomas SR, son William Thomas VanNoy Jr. sisters Cosette Shaffer, ArLee Bales, Sherry Jackson, brothers, Dal Shaffer, Brent Christensen, Parents Leroy Jessop Shaffer, Pearl Stocks -Shaffer -Christensen, Step-Father Ruben Christensen, and two precious great grand children. She is survived by her children: Stacia Roseman, Cindy Sims, Bruce VanNoy & (wife Linda), Sister Marsha Pilgeram, Daughter in Law, Terri VanNoy Winters, 9 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and two great-great grand children and many nieces & nephews.
Roene Married William T. VanNoy May 7, 1950 in Elko, NV, they were later married and sealed in the Salt Lake Temple November 8, 1985. Roene Graduated from Preston High 1947, she worked as a Telephone Operator, Rest Home as a Nurse’s Aide, South Davis Community Hospital Environment Services doing laundry she then went to Lakeview Hospital for 28 yrs and became Executive Housekeeper. She became a member & secretary of National Executive Housekeeping in 1968. She was awarded Citizen of the Year 1978-1979 for Davis County Development Center; she has many certificates of continuing education in healthcare as well as self development courses she has taken. She was diagnosed with Macular Degeneration shortly after she retired, and became legally blind, she became a member of the National Association of the Blind, she took many classes for the blind, and was determined to never allow her diseases to overcome her, she was selected to meet Governor Jon Huntsman’s wife Mary Kaye as a representative of the blind. She joined the Daughters of the Pioneers in 2007. She was a member of H2U; and participated in monthly Birthday luncheons with several of her friends. She was a member of Senior Friends and loved going on the cruises, and traveling with her various groups. Mother was not just our mother, not just our grandmother not just our sister, aunt or friend. She was everyone’s mother, grandmother sister aunt & friend all who knew her instantly loved her as she loved them and was immediately a part of the family. She started a Christmas Eve Tradition where family gathered and celebrated together anyone was welcome friend or foe she was honored to have the China Ambassadors brought by sister to join in our celebration. Mother had many gifts and talents and the sweetest spirit, she is the most genuine example of unconditional love. We all thank you mother for the many lessons and unconditional love you have given us for all your wisdom, and encouragement. There is no doubt that you will be missed terribly here on earth but know God has another special mission in store for you now. Your family will cherish you for time and eternity until we meet again.
Funeral services will be held at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 300 North Main St., Bountiful, Utah, on Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at 11:00 p.m. Viewing will be Monday, July 28, 2014, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. also Tuesday, 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at Bountiful Cemetery, 2224 South 200 West, Bountiful, Utah.
