Roger Wade Slade

October 28, 1927 — April 16, 2019

Roger Wade Slade peacefully passed from this life to the next while surrounded by loving family members Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at the age of 91.

He was born in Ogden, Utah on October 28, 1927 to Jefferson Chestnut Slade, Jr. and Josephine Ferrin Wade.  He spent his youth helping his father who owned and managed Slade Transfer Moving and Storage.    He attended Quincy Elementary, Lewis Jr. High, and graduated from Ogden High School after which he served in the US Army following World War II from 1945-47 in Oregon and California.

He attended Oregon State University while in the Army, Weber State College after discharge, and completed a degree in Mathematics from Utah State University in 1950.  He met his eternal companion, Beth Lorraine Hurst, while both were living in dorm rooms in the same building at Utah State.  They were married September 14, 1949 in the Salt Lake Temple and this year celebrate their 70th anniversary.  They are parents of 6 children, 24 grandchildren, and 33 great-grandchildren.

Roger served in the US Air Force during the Korean War from 1951-53 in Texas and Mississippi.  Upon discharge he was hired by IBM as a computer engineer and worked there until retiring in 1986.  He always had the reputation of being able to fix anything.

He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and helped countless people with his selfless service throughout his life.  Roger and Beth served a full-time mission together for the Church in Adam-Ondi-Ahman, Missouri from 1988 to 1990.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Don Slade; sisters, Darlene Dawson and Jacqueline Slade; son, Lynn Slade; and grandsons, Dallis Stubbs and Addison Slade.  He is survived by his wife, Beth Slade; sons, Allan Slade, Neil Slade, and David Slade; and daughters, Dianne Slade and Colleen Vernon.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 24, 2019 in the Bountiful Hills Ward Building, 1190 E Bountiful Hills Drive, Bountiful, Utah. A viewing will be held Tuesday evening from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful, and Wednesday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment-Provo City Cemetery.
