Rollo Emmett Richins returned to his family in Heaven on May 11, 2012. He was born in South Weber, Utah June 22, 1922 to Joseph and Lodema Richins. He married Margaret Schettler in the Logan LDS Temple July 13, 1945.
Rollos greatest joy in life was his family. He is survived by two sons, Craig (Sandy) Richins of Pocatello, Idaho and Brian (Trudy) Richins of Bountiful, Utah. Rollo was blessed with 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, and nine siblings.
Rollo attended Jackson Junior High and West High School where he graduated. During High School he played the trumpet in the band as well as football, basketball, baseball and golf. He ran track and field as well and won the high hurdles even in the BYU relays. His lifelong passion was golfing and coaching his sons in many years of little league baseball.
Rollo worked the family run gas station (Richins Service) in High School to pay for his cars and many hobbies. After High School he went to work for Union Pacific Railroad. He also owned a Bar (The Idle Hour) in Bountiful, Utah. Later in life he owned and operated a Golf Club repair business.
In 1941 Rollo enlisted in the United States Navy. He was assigned to the USS Almaak (an amphibious attack ship). His ship served in most all of the Pacific Theater. Rollo was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1945 and went back to work for the Union Pacific Railroad. He worked as a Baggage and Passenger Agent in the ticket office. He retired as an Assistant Freight Agent in 1987 after 46 years of service.
Rollo loved to spend time with his family and especially enjoyed his time with Margie and their beloved pet Buffy traveling and spending time as Snow Birds in St. George, Utah.
A special thanks is warranted to those many individuals who comforted Rollo in his final days. To all the special staff over the last several years at Quail Ridge as well as those at Creek Side Home Health in Pocatello, Idaho, and many others too numerous to mention. Rollos family thanks you.
