Roma Orton Hansen, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away June 18, 2021, in the comfort of her home. Roma was loved by many and will be dearly missed.
Roma was born on November 13, 1926, in Chesterfield, Idaho to loving parents, William Orton and Elozia Marie Davis. She was a nurturing older sister to her sister, Gwen and brother, John.
Roma attended school in Idaho and California. After graduating from Bancroft High School in Idaho, Roma enrolled in the Army Cadet Nurses Corps with St. Luke’s Hospital in Boise, Idaho. Later she attended BYU in Provo, Utah where she met her future husband William (Bill) Hansen. They were married in the Idaho Falls Temple on March 31, 1948.
They made their first home in Alberta, Canada. They later lived in Idaho and Oregon before settling in Utah. They raised six children and after the death of her sister, Roma helped raise her niece.
Roma was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many callings, including District Primary president in Burns, Oregon, and Genealogy Name Extraction. She also was a scout den mother and Relief Society secretary. Roma and Bill served a Church Service Mission to Deseret Industries in St. George, Utah.
She loved flower gardening and was an avid reader. She loved her family and hearing about their adventures. She always remembered birthdays of family and friends by sending cards, which we will all miss.
She also had a passion for family history and for many years served in her Orton and Davis family organizations, writing family newsletters with genealogy updates and organizing reunions.
She is survived by her children, John Hansen (Terry), Laura Hansen, Ronald Hansen (Gaylene), Kim Hansen, Jana Oomrigar, Michael Hansen (Yumi), 14 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and brother, John Orton.
