Ron was taken from his family suddenly on March 2nd at the young age of 57. Ron was born March 11th 1958 in Bountiful, Utah to Edwin and Helen Bingham Wood. Ron attended Viewmont High School where he met his sweetheart Joni Sanders, with whom he was sealed for eternity in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they raised their 3 children: Amy (Nick) McKinlay, Cody (Whitney) Wood, Casey (Liesl) Wood, and his fur child Teeke. Grandchildren include Kaden, Kylee, Kenzey, Khloe, and future grandson Ryker. He is survived by his 3 brothers: Dennis, Blair and Jeff. His Mom, Dad and sister Vicki precede him in death. Ron enjoyed working with his hands, teaching many skills and hard work to his three children. His kids describe him as a man with an amazing amount of talent, and perfection in everything he touched.
He is a faithful member of the LDS church. He served a mission in Oakland, California and was a great example to everyone around him, showing his service for others. He is a righteous priesthood holder and honored his temple covenants worthily. When it came to attending church and holding callings, he was always willing to lend a hand to anyone that was in need. He was a very dedicated home teacher and showed unconditional love to those whom he was chosen to watch over. Ron was an amazing patriarch and father that made sure his children were well taught and protected through the priesthood and his example. He was a very loving and caring husband. He took his responsibilities very seriously, and did his very best to provide, care for and be a wonderful companion to his best friend, and eternal companion of 36 years.
Ron was a hardworking man with a longstanding career at Holly Refinery. He took great pride in his work and never took a moment for himself, but rather made sure that each job was done with absolute perfection and that nothing else needed attention. His handiness was shared with his children, neighbors and ward members, from car repairs to fixing a toilet. Ron was a jack-of-all-trades that either knew how to fix it, or would research it until he was able to figure it out. His work ethic and desire echoed in everything that he did, and he did the best he could to make sure his children carried on those traits.
Aside from work, Ron also found some of his greatest joy in his furry friend Teeke. Although he opposed getting a dog in the beginning, he learned to love this dog like one of his children. It was through months of rehabilitation from his shoulder surgery that they truly grew to be the best of friends. We know Teeke will miss him, and he will some day be part of our eternal family.
In these hard times, it’s important to remember all the memories that have been made. Some of our greatest memories as a family were made on the shores of Lake Powell. For almost 14 years, we have made it a priority to get there and despite broken bearings and tires, we have never let anything get in the way. From beaching boats and houseboats, failures with an air chair, and an amazing slip and slide, it holds a special place in our hearts. We know it is a part of Ron’s and all of our eternal paradises.
The accident came with out any warning. There was no way for any of us to prepare, but we know that there is always a plan. Ron is in a better place now. He was greeted by his parents and loving sister Vicki. He will be greatly missed. He is a loved man and the support that has been shown for our family has been amazing and is deeply appreciated.
