Ronald Barlow

August 7, 1933 — August 11, 2013

Biography

Ronald died peacefully in his sleep on August 11, 2013. Ronald was born on August 7, 1933, to Charles & Ruth Barlow. He grew up in Bountiful, and graduated from Davis High School in 1951. He married LuRae Ostergaard on December 2, 1955. A year later they moved to the Bay area in California where they lived for 12 1/2 years. By the time the family returned to Bountiful in 1969, they had five children. The last two children came after they returned to Utah, for a grand total of seven children.
Ronald was very service-minded and active in several organizations including The National Exchange Club, Bountiful Community Theatre, and the LDS Church.
He loved the Lord and lived what he believed at all times, in all things, and in all places. He served three full-time LDS missions, as well as being a temple worker. He served in numerous Bishoprics as Counselor, Executive Secretary, and Ward Clerk.
Music has always been his love. He sang in quartets as a teenager, organized barbershop quartets in California and again when he returned to Utah. His longest running quartet was named “Those Guys” who sang together for 30+ years. In the last few years, he organized the Ronald Barlow Chorale and enjoyed it greatly. He was Stake Music Chairman and Ward Chorister multiple times.
An accountant by trade, his jobs included accounting, tax work, real estate broker, property and investment management, and running a successful family business.
He enjoyed raising his family, playing tennis every Friday afternoon, traveling, and sight seeing. He also enjoyed camping and playing horseshoes at our annual Barlow campout.
He lived his life with a positive mental attitude, which affected all around him. His great example influenced all that knew him.
Ronald is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Helen, and his daughter, Karen. He is survived by his wife, LuRae, and six children – Garrick (Julie), Scot (Stephanie), Nelson, Annette (Kendall) Lovell, Suzanne (Walter) Horne, and Alison (Michael) Clausen, 18 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and his sister Karen (Terry) Tucker.
