Ron grew up in the Sugarhouse area of Salt Lake City, Utah. He graduated from South High School in 1938. He was stationed in San Diego, California when he met a Navy nurse named Anita Marie Miller. Anita agreed to a first date on February 14, 1944. They fell in love and were married on November 18, 1944. As a veteran of World War II, his proud service continued again later in life when he served as treasurer of the Blinded Veterans of America, Western Mountaineers Regional Group.
Following their service in the war, Ronald and Anita moved to Salt Lake City, Utah to make their home. He loved taking his family on vacations to their cabin in Wyoming, camping at Moon Lake, road trips to Texas, their cabin at Bear Lake, and many other adventures.
Ron, along with his brothers and brother-in-law, owned and operated Intermountain Glass and Paint Company in Salt Lake City, Utah. In 1949, he opened the second shop in Bountiful, Utah.
