Rosemary Wright Hood

August 26, 1942 — April 8, 2024

Rosemary Wright Hood, more affectionately known as Hamma, born August 26th, 1942 passed away to reunite with her husband and family on April 8th, 2024. She fought a long and valiant fight against cancer.

She was born in Lyman, Wyoming and grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah.  Whether it was being born in Wyoming or growing up in a house full of siblings, or raising five children, she had a kind of toughness most of us can only hope for.

She met Kent Hood after high school and waited for him while he served a mission in England.  They were promptly married and sealed in the Salt Lake City temple after his return on August 28, 1964.  Kent and Rosemary were deeply in love and always considered each other their eternal companions. They were the parents to five children who are the crown jewels of their marriage.

They made their home in Bountiful where they raised their children.  Though they never lived a flashy life, they lived a fulfilling life.  Rosemary was able to be home to raise her children all of whom she loved completely.  Her children always knew how much their mother loved them.  She would have sacrificed all for them and often did.

Rosemary became a widow when her husband Kent passed away at the age of 46.  She supported and loved him through many trials as he battled cancer.  After his passing, she went back for training and worked for the state board of regents for many years as a receptionist where she made many long and lasting friendships.  She finished raising her children, all of whom married in the temple.  Her sons all served faithful missions.  This was due in no small part to Rosemary's faith in God and love for her children.

She always loved to have grandkids come over and they all knew a cookie awaited them when they came for a visit.  Rosemary loved her grandkids dearly.

Rosemary loved to read and had bookshelves full of books.  She especially loved books about the Savior.  She had an unwavering testimony and loved to read and learn about Him even until her final days.  We know that she is now in His loving arms welcoming her back home.

Rosemary loved to travel and see the world.  She traveled through Europe, China, Australia and New Zealand among other places.  She never shied away from an adventure and the opportunity to experience something new.  Although her life would never be described as easy, she loved her life and never once complained about her trials.  She was determined to live her life to the fullest.   She loved her early morning walks with friends.  She loved dinners at her kids' homes.  She loved the opportunity to go with family any chance she could.  She loved living.

Although we are sad to have her go, we can only rejoice in the great reunion she will have with her eternal sweetheart, Kent.  They have been away from each other for so long and she has missed him dearly for many years.  The sweetness of their return to each other, having lived faithfully throughout their lives, erases any sadness that we feel.  Knowing that they're together again and will remain that way throughout the eternities can only bring us all joy.  Knowing that they both stayed true and faithful to the end only brings us assurance that we can all do the same following their example.

We would also like to thank the countless hours of excellent care provided to Rosemary through her final months by Abbington Senior Living Center in Layton and Inspiration Hospice.  They truly helped her through some of her most challenging months and their kindness and amazing care was not unnoticed.

Rosemary was preceded in death by her husband Kent, and parents Alton and Ida Wright.  She is survived by her children Byron (Heidi), Garth (Tara), Michelle (JR), John (Kellie) and Gary (Camille).  She has 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren with one more expected any day.  She will be buried next to her loving husband Kent in the Bountiful city cemetery.

Her funeral will take place on Monday, April 15th at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on 102 East 1400 South in Bountiful, where a viewing will be held prior to the funeral from 9:45-10:45 a.m.  A viewing will also be held at Russon Mortuary at 295 North Main Street in Bountiful on Sunday April 14th from 6-8 pm.
