Roxey Romney Davis Holbrook died peacefully at home in Bountiful, Friday, September 15, 2006. She was born in Bunkerville, Nevada on December 9, 1913, the daughter of Erastus Snow Romney and Roxey Maria Stowell Romney. She was the second of five children. She was preceded in death by her four siblings, Ralph, Woody, Myles, and Wanda Dana. Roxey grew up in St. George, Utah where she graduated from St. George High. She also attended Dixie College where she was chosen Dixie Queen and graduated from Brigham Young University. She later received a graduate degree from Woodbury Business College in Los Angeles. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Over the years she worked as a teacher in various church organizations. Roxey married Al Davis in 1938 and spent six wonderful years living in Los Angeles and San Francisco. He died in 1944. As a young widow she moved to Salt Lake City and began her career at ZCMI. Working up from the mail-order room to Fashion Ready to Wear buyer. She helped develop ZCMI?s growing reputation for better goods and style. In 1954 she married Merrill R. Holbrook. Together they had a daughter Roxey Ann Holbrook. She was a superb step mother to Merrill?s children, Merrillyn, Gerri, Colette, and Merrill Randy. Merrill died in 1972, and in 1982 she married Dr. Von G. Holbrook. In 1975 she entered into a partnership taking over the Cameo Room Fur Department. With her keen sense of fashion she created one of the finest Fur Salons in the west working full time at ZCMI until 1996. She retired after 52 years at age 82. Roxey was inducted into the Dixie College Hall of Fame in 1999 for having distinguished herself in her profession. Roxey is survived by her daughter, Roxey Ann, son-in-law Ephraim Zadok, and 6 step-children. The family would like to recognize Tracie Lyons for her outstanding compassion and care. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, September 23, 2006 at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 N. Main, Bountiful, where friends may call Friday evening from 6-8 and Saturday from 1:45-2:45 prior to the service. Interment-Bountiful City Cemetery.
