Marvin LeRoy Reed

“Roy”

BOUNTIFUL- Roy returned to his Father in Heaven the evening of March 12th, 2015 after a valiant struggle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Born on June 16th, 1928 to Seth Elijah Reed and Edith Putnam, Roy was fifth of seven children.  He was the last surviving member of his family.

Roy was born and raised in Bountiful and graduated from Davis High School.  He grew up working in his family’s orchards, where he learned his honest and kind disposition and strong work ethic. These virtues served him well throughout his life, his greatest hobby being that of service to others.

Roy was a long time member of the Val Verda 5th ward, which later became the North Canyon 5th ward.  He served as secretary in many auxiliaries and was a faithful home teacher, making many lifelong friends.

At age eighteen, Roy began driving his brother Elmer’s team of hired horses for Foss Lewis’s sand and gravel pit at the top of North Canyon Road.  There he took a fancy to the boss’s daughter, Joyce.  He offered Joyce’s brother, Dave, a dollar to ask if she would go out with him.  He later confessed he wanted to offer a quarter, but didn’t want to seem cheap.  This turned out to be a pretty good investment. In 1947 they were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.  They spent the next 68 years hand in hand, facing the experiences that life would bring.

Roy served in the National Guard, and was later drafted into the army to serve on active duty from 1953-1954 in Korea.  He was a motor pool sergeant, overseeing a fleet of trucks carrying supplies from the docks in Poison to the supply lines. After returning home Roy continued to serve in the National Guard.

Upon returning from Korea, Roy continued to work with his family at Foss Lewis Sand and Gravel.  He was lovingly known as “Sarge” by friends and coworkers.  He took part in construction projects such as local schools, golf courses and the Provo Temple.

Roy is survived by his wife, Joyce Kaye Lewis, his son Delroy (Kaylinne) Reed; and grandchildren Kody (Heather) Reed, Kasey Reed, and Kalli (Shawn) Mangum.  He had six great grandchildren, Brighton and Bowen Reed, Austyn Reed and Porter, Olivia and Foss Mangum.

Roy never failed to express his gratitude, even after his health was challenged.  He was always first to say thank you and express his appreciation for everyone’s support.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 18th 2015 at North Canyon 5th Ward Chapel, 2505 South Davis Boulevard, Bountiful, Utah.  Friends and Family may call at a viewing held on Tuesday, March 17th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Russon Brother’s Mortuary, 295 North Main , Bountiful, Utah and on Wednesday prior to the services from 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the church.  Interment will be held at the Bountiful City Cemetery.

The family wishes to give their deepest thanks for the kind and gentle care that was given by the aids and medical staff at Legacy House Bountiful and Aspire Hospice.
