RUBY ETHEL GRAHAM IRVING 1914-2010
TOGETHER FOREVER
Died peacefully and comfortably at age 95 in Bountiful, Utah on January 13, 2010 in the presence of her family, her sister-in-law and long-time friend, Lois Krause, and her niece and friend Teddie Krause. Born 10 September 1914 in Union, Utah, to Shirley H. and Ethel Walker Graham. Older sister to Laverl Pete Graham and Doris Graham Hilton.
Married Ivor L. Irving, 20 October 1933, later sealed in the LDS Salt Lake Temple on their 20th wedding anniversary. Ivor died in August 1989.
Resident of Bountiful, Utah, since 1952 and a member of the LDS Bountiful 4th and 36th wards.
Devoted and active daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Active in fast-pitch softball as the shortstop in the Farm Bureau league, bowling, golf, daily walking, and church and community service. Den mother in the Cub Scouts, ward Relief Society president and secretary, genealogist, officer and teacher in LDS church auxiliaries. Provided virtually daily companionship and service to her mother Ethel from at least the late 1950s until Ethel’s death in 1974. Data entry work in LDS name extraction process, volunteer Pink Lady at South Davis and Lakeview hospitals, volunteer at the Bountiful Golden Years Center, made newborn kits for the Relief Society, member and officer of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. Weekly attender at the LDS temples in Ogden, Salt Lake City, and Bountiful. Her lemon meringue pie shamed the very best chefs in Paris France; her pumpkin pie would have made the pilgrims proud.
Provided amazing cultural, spiritual, and educational opportunities for and life-changing influence on her sons Gordon and Tom, all the while tending to their physical and emotional needs. Extended those opportunities and influence to her daughter-in-law Judith Irving, Vienna, Virginia, seven grateful grandchildren: Jessica Rick Marschall, Wales, Wisconsin; Beverly John Jacobs Pacific Palisades, California; Jean Mike Lee, Vienna, Virginia; Amelia Christopher Johnson, Petersburg, Virginia; Nicole Irving, Brigham Young University; and Georgia and Oliver Irving, Vienna, Virginia, and ten great-grandchildren: Barron, Caroline, Katie, Alex, Will, and Annabelle Marschall, Calvin and Luke Jacobs, and Preston and Marianne Lee
Also survived by nieces and nephews, cousins, and many friends and neighbors, including special friend Margaret Harker.
The family is extremely grateful to the loving, caring, and professional staffs at Lakeview Hospital, Orchard Cove, and Haven Hospice.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 18, 2010 at the Bountiful 36th Ward, 102 East 1400 South. Friends and family may visit Sunday evening January 17, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main and Monday, January 18, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment – Bountiful City Cemetery.
