Ruby Rauch Layton passed away peacefully on October 23, 2021, a beautiful fall morning just five days after celebrating her 94th birthday.
She was born October 18, 1927, in New Holstein, Wisconsin to Fred and Emma Rauch, recent immigrants from Germany. Ruby and her sister Marian grew up in the Bronx, New York.
While working as a teen at the YMCA-Sloane House in Manhattan during WWII, she met a handsome young sailor from Utah, with whom she continued to correspond. After the war, she moved west and married her sweetheart, Homer Lawrence Layton, on September 21, 1946, in the Salt Lake Temple.
Ruby and Homer bought their first home in Compton, California where they raised their six children. They later moved to Bountiful, Utah.
Mom took pride in her homes—immaculately kept, structured and secure. As children, we were provided everything we needed and worked hard for anything we wanted.
Mom is survived by her 6 children: Grant (Eileen), Mark, Lynne, David (Emily), Dean (Margo) and Wendy (Andrew), 21 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
She will be laid to rest on October 30, 2021, alongside her loving husband, Homer, in Bountiful Utah.
