Ruby Mitchell

October 5, 1917 — July 5, 2013

Ruby Edelman Mitchell, age 95, passed away July 5, 2013 in Bountiful, Utah.
Ruby was born October 5, 1917 in Long Beach, California to Alice Maude Southwick and August Fred Edelman. Following her birth, the family moved to Utah where her sister, Ruth and brother Bob were born. She attended schools in Provo and upon graduation moved to Salt Lake where she worked her way through the “Great Depression”.
Ruby married William Max Mitchell in 1938. They had three children, Geraldine, Dean and Kent. Max served in the Army during World War II, while Ruby raised the kids and worked part-time.
Following the War, the family moved to North Salt Lake where they bought a house with an orchard and raised the kids and the peaches. Max worked for Pacific Intermountain Express (PIE), while Ruby worked for the Cudahy Packing Plant. Having come through the hard times, they both knew the value of hard work and passed the lesson on to their children. Ruby was the most beautiful, hard working and most caring mother a person could have.
She is survived by her three children, Geraldine Kidman, Bountiful, UT; Kent Mitchell (Margaret), Woods Cross, UT; Dean Mitchell (Leena), SLC, UT, and numerous grand, great grand and one great-great grandchild. She is preceded in death by her husband Max, son-in-law, Leo Kidman, a grandson Larry Mitchell and her brother and sister.
We would like to thank those who helped Mom at Lakeview Hospital and at Heritage Place. And thanks to all her friends at Heritage Place, especially to Herb Lane and Ann Graham.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday July 9th at 10:30 AM at the Bountiful City Cemetery, 2224 South 200 West, Bountiful, Utah.
