Rupert died on Thursday, June 6, 2024, in Bountiful, Utah.
Rupert was born on February 28, 1929, in Society Hill, South Carolina, to R. Maude and Sildem J. Gandy.
After moving from South Carolina to Utah, Rupert met and married the love of his life, Marilyn Murdock in the Salt Lake Temple on September 28, 1949. They enjoyed 75 years together and raised their family of 8 children in Bountiful, Utah. Rupert was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He served for many years as the custodial caretaker of the historical Bountiful Tabernacle and grounds on Main Street in Bountiful, Utah.
Rupert was an avid sportsman, playing softball for years on a city league. He also participated in the Huntsman Senior Games for over 30 years, earning a jacket recognizing this achievement. He was a faithful BYU fan for many many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents and ten siblings, a son Rupert Kimball Gandy, son-in-laws David Randall Eggett and Rahe Lynn Anderson, and a grandson Chandler Poulsen.
He is survived by his wife Marilyn, brother-in-law Jack (Vicki) Murdock, and seven children, Sharri (Jon) Gailey, Linda (Norm) Thomas, Gayleen Gandy (daughter-in-law), Shauna Eggett, Darryl (Lisa) Gandy, Carolyn Anderson, Laura (Dale) Poulsen, and Cayla (Brad) Benard. In addition, 57 grandchildren, 95 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 14, 2024, at the Bountiful Tabernacle, 55 South Main Street, Bountiful, Utah. An evening viewing will take place from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main Street, Bountiful, Utah. A morning viewing will be held from 9:30-10:30 a.m. on Friday at the tabernacle prior to services.
