Russell Ernest Thompson, 59, our beloved husband, father, son and brother peacefully returned to our Heavenly Father on March 8, 2012 after a courageous battle with AML Leukemia.
Russell was born June 30, 1952 in Salt Lake City to Ralph and Carol Thompson. He grew up in Bountiful, UT and graduated from Viewmont High School in 1970. He graduated from Weber State University with a bachelor’s degree in business. Russell faithfully served his LDS mission as a part of the Alaska – British Columbia Mission.
Throughout his lifetime, Russell reverently served the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in many facets. His roles included Young Men’s Leader, Gospel Doctrine teacher, and member of the Bishopric of the West Bountiful 3rd Ward. He also served several decades in the Boy Scouts of America program with more than a decade as a Scout Master with both the 3rd Ward and West Bountiful Utah Stake, achieving the Silver Beaver Award. Russell recently served as Ward Missionary, Gospel Doctrine teacher, and scouting commission chair in the Centerville 7th Ward.
Russell worked in the circulation department of the Newspaper Agency Corporation for over thirty-five years. In his free time, Russell was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening, and all kinds of travel. He also loved reading the newspaper, spending time with his family, and sharing his love of the outdoors with them.
He is survived by Roxanne Farnes Thompson (married 1974-2009) (later divorced) and their four children Jen (Kem) Weaver, Josh (Nicci), Ben, and Molly Thompson, and his present wife and sweetheart, Sandra K Curzon Thompson (married 2010). He is also survived by his six grandchildren Mason, Lauren, Preston, Hadley, Hailey and Treyton, who he adored and spoiled, his stepchildren Dustin, Amy, Robert, Sam, and David Hale, his nieces and nephews, his father Ralph and his brothers and sisters Don (Debbie), Ken (Cindy), Susan (Kevin Scott), Ellen, Roger (Jennifer) Thompson, and Aunts Lois Lucas and Barbara Armstrong.
He is preceded in death by his loving mother Carol Proctor Thompson and several aunts and uncles.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon, Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at the Centerville Stake Center, 270 North 300 East. A viewing will be held Tuesday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main and Wednesday morning 10:45-11:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment-Centerville City Cemetery.
