Ruth Amrstrong

Our Mom, Grandma, Great-grandma, Sister, and friend, Ruth Mae Brown Armstrong, died in the early morning hours of September 5, 2009, surrounded by her children. Although we will miss her every day, we also rejoice at the knowledge we have that our parents are together again after being apart for 50 years. Mom was born October 11, 1920 to Elbert Ray and Zerelda Mae Weaver Brown in Pocatello, Idaho. She was the third of six children. She was raised on a farm outside of Pocatello and loved to help her Dad with the farming responsibilities. Mom moved to Salt Lake City to attend LDS Business College. She lived in the Beehive House, which at that time was a boarding house. It was in Salt Lake City that she met the love of her life, Fred Jackson Jack Armstrong. Mom and Dad were married on October 13, 1944 in Glasgow, Montana, fulfilling a promise Dad had made to his mother to be married in Glasgow. Mom and Dad were blessed with three children; Douglas, Susan and Patricia. We grew up on 280 Navajo Street in Salt Lake City. Our family life was a happy one, until one day in March of 1959. Our Dad was taken from our family in a tragic trucking accident. Mom was faced with the challenge of raising 3 children on her own. Mom gave us a great gift on April 1, 1960, when she chose to have us sealed as a family in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Mom worked for 25 years for the Salt Lake City School District as a school secretary at Jefferson Elementary and Hawthorne Elementary. This job allowed Mom to be home with us much of the time. After her retirement, she volunteered at the Salt Lake Temple for over 15 years. Mom had a strong testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and held many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Mom taught us everything we needed to know about having courage, hard work, and what true love was really all about. She never desired to marry again. We are and will continue to be grateful for her example. Mom is survived by her children; Douglas Jody Armstrong, Susan David Macfee, and Patricia Kim McReynolds. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Melissa Josh Boyle Armstrong, Alison Brown, Angela Bell, Andrew Marissa Armstrong, Matthew Amy McReynolds, and Mark Cecily McReynolds and her great-grandchildren: Lauren Boyle, Cole and Jonah Brown, Sydney Bell, Jackson, Alex and Andrew McReynolds, and Nash and Gigi McReynolds; her sisters Mary Day and Beverly Whitaker; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Byron and Florence Armstrong, Bert and Florence Armstrong, Helen Turnquist, Marge McDonald, Bill Armstrong, and Betty Hawley. Mom was preceded in death by her loving husband Jack, her parents, her mother and father-in-law, Andrew and Hazel Armstrong, her sisters, Helen Lemmon and Jean Turpin and her brother, Scott Brown; her sisters-in-law Eloise Vogler and Wilmo Hallet. We love you mom, thank you for dedicating your life to us and give Dad a hug from us. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main where a visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. and Wednesday morning 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment-Salt Lake City Cemetery.
