Ruth Carol McCloy

Our precious mother, Ruth Carol Brown McCloy, was born in Davisville, Idaho, on December 25, 1918. Her birth into eternity was September 9, 2012. She lived a joyful, happy life and made the path of others easier because she was there at the crossroads of their lives. She served so unselfishly. Family was important to mom. She loved being a Christmas baby because everyone was always together on her birthday. She was the oldest of six children born to Melverton Cook and Inez Ovanda Balls Brown. Her childhood was a magic time which she often reflected upon during her adult life. Her siblings are Melverton La Mar [deceased], Daniel Keith [deceased] William Clarke [Nina Ater], Ralph Lynn [Della Watkins], and Sheryl Peterson, [Grant]. She was a favorite aunt to both the McCloy and Brown families. Mom was famous for her spaghetti, and cousin parties and sleepovers with nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. She was an amazing grandmother who spent quality time reading and playing with her grandchildren. Mom met our dad, Ralph Kenneth McCloy, at a Gold and Green Ball while they attended Utah State. They were married in the Logan Temple on June 2, 1942. They lived in three states as teaching and administrative opportunities arose for Dad. During these times they were blessed with four children: Linda, Marilyn, Joe, and Gary. Their adventures took them to Rupert ID, Beaver Utah, Bancroft ID, Cokeville WY, Bountiful UT, and finally settling in Centerville, Utah. Mom taught school for many years and was loved by her students. She was a devoted helpmate and even the best at putting worms on dad’s fishing hooks. Mom is everything you could ever want in a mother and more. She was a teacher, homemaker and best cook, seamstress, listener, confidant, piano teacher, organist, poet, history writer, accompanist, peacemaker, and cheerleader to her family. Mom had a quick wit which she got from her mother who got it from her father. Mother saw beauty in everything and everyone. She loved the clouds, Mt. Olympus, painted fingernails, and chocolate. It has been said “the beauty seen is partly in him who sees it.” That is our mom. She gave the gifts of her time and of her testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ to us. Mom is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her church service includes teaching in YW’s and primary, stake Sunday school board, extraction, church service and member locator missions with cousins and dear friends, serving in a Relief Society Presidency, using her musical talents where needed, faithful visiting teacher, and friend. We quote Abraham Lincoln: “All that I am and all that I hope to be I owe to my angel mother.” Mom is survived by her children: Linda Graham [Doug], Marilyn Broadbent [Rich], Joseph Ralph [Debra], and Gary Lynn [Wendi Waddoups], her grandchildren: Jennifer, David and Amanda, JD and Annie, Cari and Kyle, JR and Alisa, Mark and Jenn, Rebecca, Dave and Jill, Matt, Liz and Brett, Ben, Alyssa, Kristine and Michael, Colson, Jonathan and Marcie, Jason and Lacey, Whitney and Daniel, Cheltsey, Kate and Cody, Mitch, and Wes; and her great-grandchildren, Tre’, Kia, Abby, Kate, Sarah, Megan, Sydney, Lily, Georgia, Owen, Emma, Lydia, Sydney, Logan, Sadie, Jake, Brooklee, KayLee, Isaak, and Gabriel. A celebration of Mom’s life will be held Wednesday, September 12 from 6-8 pm at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful, Utah. Funeral services will be held at the Centerville Utah South Stake Center, 270 North 300 East on Thursday, September 13th at 12:00 noon with a viewing from 10:30 – 11:45 a.m. Online guest book at www.russonmortuary.com.
