Our beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and friend passed away peacefully at home last Tuesday, January 27, 2015. She was the oldest of three children born to Irving Joseph Wight and Ruth Haws Wight on February 15, 1927, in Brigham City. She married her adoring husband, George William Fowler Jr. on September 3, 1947, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
They are the proud parents of six children: William Leon (Laurie); Janet Ruth Duncan (Curt); Richard Lynn (Cindy); Kerry Eugene (Launee); Jean Ann; Scott Joseph and honorary daughter Julie Jensen. They have 16 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Geneal is also survived by her brother, Douglas (Kay) Wight and sister, Julia (Judy) (Mitch) Mitchell. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and grandson, Michael Tod Fowler.
Ruth was known to her friends and associates as Geneal, She graduated from Granite High School in 1944 and became a life-long learner conquering the challenges of new technologies. She worked 21 years for the Building Division of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the Church Office Building in Salt Lake City. As an active member in her local ward she faithfully fulfilled many church callings and she especially took great pride in her teaching callings. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. As a couple, Geneal and George, created a home that had an open door to neighbors and friends, making everyone who entered feel welcome. Geneal loved the gospel of Jesus Christ and dedicated her life to studying and living its principles. She was an example of acceptance and service to all who knew her. She was a leader both as a trail-blazer for women in the workplace as well as by adding crucial support to her husband. She loved music and preformed with the Sweet Adeline's as a young adult and enjoyed playing the piano her entire life. Geneal loved sewing and took great pleasure in quilting.
The family would like to thank Community Nursing Services for their tender loving care.
