Ruth Hazel Putnam Parrish, 94, passed away peacefully at home, May 28, 2013. She was born February 27, 1919 in Salt Lake City, Utah; the daughter of Edgar R. and Hazel Fitt Putnam. Ruth was the second of eight children. She married John D. Parrish in the Salt Lake Temple March 23, 1939.
Ruth grew up during the depression with few earthly possessions. She had three goals for her children; a college education, musical training, and home ownership, which she helped each purchase. She attended West High School and was an adept business woman managing the bookkeeping for the Bountiful Lumber Co. and Cook Realty for many years. Ruth was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and worked in the Salt Lake Temple with her husband, John, and continued her work there for many years after his death. She volunteered at Centerville Elementary School while many of her grandchildren attended, and for many years after. Ruth enjoyed the outdoors, especially working in her yard with her grand- children, and continued keeping her yard beautiful until she died. She loved music, dancing with her grandchildren, and always had a positive outlook.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, John and her daughter Barbara Mueller, brothers Marvin, Gordon and Harvey and sisters Norma Terrell and Donna Jaseph. She is survived by two sisters, Lois Mertlich and Alina Smith, children Beverly (Alan) Davenport, Ron (Martha), Joanne, Carolyn and Neil (Julie), 17 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren.
