Ruth Nadine Michelson, 88, passed away peacefully at home on August 29, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. She was born November 3, 1927 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the first child of Theodore and Ruth Dance.
Nadine suffered a stroke on March 28. She was hospitalized and later moved to Life Care in Bountiful. She had many caring nurses look after her. Her one desire was to come home. Nadine had a guardian angel the last several weeks of her life in her daughter-in-law, Julie Michelson who selflessly cared for her every need. Words cannot express the family’s gratitude for Julie and her devotion to mom.
Nadine was raised in Thomas, Idaho on the family farm. She helped where she could, but farm life never really appealed to her and she determined she would live in the city. She participated in sports growing up and especially loved basketball. She graduated from Thomas High School in 1945 and then attended BYU for one year.
Nadine met Floyd Michelson while roller skating in Blackfoot, Idaho. “Mike” and Nadine dated and were married November 20, 1946. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on August 27, 1958. They had five children. Their second child, a son, was stillborn. She relied on her faith to help her with this challenge. Family was everything to her. Her family came first and she kept busy supporting her children and grandchildren in their many activities. Nothing would bring a twinkle to her eye and a smile to her face like a grandchild. The babies were referred to as her little bugs. She enjoyed reading stories to the grandchildren and would sometimes fall asleep while reading. When they would nudge her, she would always say, “I’m not asleep, I’m just resting my eyes.”
Nadine can be described as the perfect mother and grandmother. She was the knick knack queen, loved peanut clusters, and was an avid Utah Jazz fan. Her house was always neat and tidy, but in the closets and cupboards were her treasured memories. She kept everything including cards, letters, invitations, programs, and pictures. She lived life to the fullest and was a true friend.
Nadine and Mike lived in many places, but she loved Bountiful. When Mike was transferred from Boise to Salt Lake with Safeway, she was positive she wanted to live in Bountiful. They had spent a few years in Bountiful before moving to Boise and she wanted to come back.
Nadine had many treasured friends. One activity was a weekly lunch with her friends. It was a highlight of the week and was rarely missed. These dear friends are once again together.
Nadine was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She was the greatest example of faith. Her testimony was strong and never wavered. Her service in the church was often in Primary. She served as president, counselor, and teacher. She loved having the temple so close and attended weekly. She was truly a disciple of Jesus Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Floyd “Mike” Michelson, a stillborn son, a brother-in-law Jerry Twiggs, and a son-in-law, Scott Smith. She is survived by her loving children: Marlene Davis, Dennis (Loraine), Jay (Julie), and Sue Hansen (Kirk), a beloved sister Sandra Twiggs, and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Saturday, September 3, 2016 at the Canyon Park Ward 1190 East Bountiful Hills Drive, Bountiful, Utah. A viewing will be from 9:45-10:45 and services at 11:00. Interment will be in the Bountiful City Cemetery.
