Ruth Walton

November 8, 1925 — April 6, 2015

Ruth Hamilton Walton, age 89, passed away April 6, 2015 in her daughter’s home.  After 15 years of pain, she is finally able to meet loved ones who have already passed beyond the veil.

Ruth was born in the Sugarhouse area of Salt Lake City to James E. and Lucinda Hamilton on November 8, 1925.  She was a middle child, having an older sister and a younger brother.

Ruth attended South High School and later graduated with a major in Home Economics Education from the University of Utah.  Following World War II, she married the love of her life, John H. Walton, on August 15, 1947 in the Salt Lake Temple.  They made their home in Sugarhouse and never moved far from that area.  Together they raised a family of 7 children.

Ruth was an accomplished pianist and organist.  She loved to sew and won many awards, including a Sweepstakes Ribbon for her fine handwork at the Utah State Fair. She loved to paint and draw, and was also a writer of poetry.  Her greatest accomplishment, however, was that of mother and homemaker.  Nothing took precedence in her life over her family.

A devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Ruth served many years in the Salt Lake Temple as an organist, in clothing rental, and with her husband as an ordinance worker.  Together, they also served a mission to the Calgary Canada Mission.  In addition, Ruth served as a volunteer hostess at the Beehive House.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband John, daughter Kathleen, two granddaughters, one great-granddaughter, and her sister, Mary Alice Newton.  She is survived by her daughters, Mary (Paul) Bearnson, Carol (Scott) Harper, Kristin (Mark) Lambert, sons, John (Candace), Paul (Janet), and James (Brenda) Walton, 26 Grandchildren, 13 Great-Grandchildren, and her brother James Hamilton.

A public viewing will be held Sunday, April 26, at the Russon Brothers Mortuary located at 255 S. 200 E. from 6-8 p.m.  A brief viewing at 9:30 a.m. will precede the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 27 in the LDS Chapel at 3rd Ave and A Street in Salt Lake City.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the LDS Humanitarian Services or General Missionary Fund in Ruth’s name.  Online guestbook available at www.russonmortuary.com
