Samuel Troy Thomas

June 24, 1958 — December 29, 2019

Our loving husband, father, Papa, brother, uncle, and friend returned to our Heavenly Father on December 29, 2019. Sam was born to Walt and Dee Thomas on June 24, 1958. He was the youngest of five children. He grew up in Bountiful and took great pride in being a Viewmont Viking. Sam became the proud father to two girls, Melissa and Samantha during his marriage to Kim Buckmiller (later divorced). Sam loved his “girls.”
Sam fell in love with his soul mate and best friend, Jackie Christensen Thomas, in 1993. They shared a groovy kind of love, now and forever. Sam and Jackie were married on September 9, 1995. Sam gained two sons, Zak and Jake, that he loved and raised as his own.
Sam worked for Consolidated Freightways for 16 years, where he made many friends that he considers brothers. After the closing of CF, Sam joined Local 57 and worked for Wasatch Electric and later Wilson Construction. Sam and Jackie then went on the road, tramping with their union brothers and beloved pup Annie.
Sam enjoyed watching hockey, baseball and football, as well as going hunting, camping, fishing, and spending time with his eight granddaughters; Naudia, Kathryn, Brecklyn, Kamaya, Kylar, Korynn, Taytem and Tilee and one grandson Gage Samuel. “Papa Bear” loved to travel, explore, collect, and mentor his grandchildren. Sam loved many children who also considered him their Papa. Sam touched many lives in his short time on this earth. Even when his pain was at its worst, he stayed strong for his family. Heaven gained an angel, and our lives will never be the same.
Sam is survived by his wife, Jackie, and his children: Melissa (Cory), Zakery (Loni), Samantha (Sean), Jacob (Chelle), sister Debbie and brother (best friend) Ron. Sam is preceded in death by his mother Dee, his father Walt, Sue (sister), Randy (brother), Jaimie (niece). A funeral to honor his memory will be held at Russon Brothers Mortuary on Saturday, January 4, 2020, at 11 a.m. A viewing will be held Friday, January 3, 2020, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and before the services from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Russon Brothers Mortuary in Bountiful, Utah. Interment at Bountiful City Cemetery.
