With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Sandra Mitchell Stout, age 82, of Bountiful, Utah. She passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 13, 2025, in her home, surrounded by her loved ones. Sandy was born February 11, 1943 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Blaine Willey and Mae Betts Parkin Mitchell.
She grew up in Woods Cross and attended South Bountiful Elementary (since torn down) and South Davis Jr. High (now known as Bountiful Jr. High). Sandy graduated from Bountiful High School in 1961; and with a full-ride scholarship to Salt Lake Trade Technical Institute, she went on to obtain her cosmetology license. She met and married Norman Clarence Stout-who was also obtaining his barber license, in 1963, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Sandy and Norm were blessed with the birth of two of their four sons, Craig and David, while Norm was serving in the U.S. Army in Wurzburg, Germany. Following Norm's military deployment, they returned to Utah where they eventually established roots in Bountiful and added Brent and Benjamin to their family.
Sandy's light and love permeated her every action, relationship, and interaction. Sandy loved being a cosmetologist, and she deeply cherished the joyful associations and lasting friendships she found through that profession. Everyone who met Sandy felt as if they were her best friend… and they were! When people left her salon, they not only looked their best, but felt their best. Throughout her life, Sandy was loved by so many who had the pleasure and privilege to know her. In the later part of her life, she enjoyed deep and meaningful friendships and found a rich and rewarding social life as she cared for herself (and others) through aquatic fitness.
Sandy was a disciple of Jesus Christ and an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served in many roles of service and love, particularly within the Relief Society. Sandy was the perfect example of servant leadership-following the admonition of Christ, always choosing the supporting role. She was truly happiest when she was serving and expressing love for others. Sandy's labor of love extended beyond those living. She was an avid genealogist, a champion of ensuring that the stories of ancestors were never forgotten. Sandy's legacy is a living example of keeping the two greatest commandments: loving God and loving neighbor. Sandy taught her children, grandchildren, and anyone who would enter her home through the symbolism of a F.R.O.G., and her loving reminder to Fully Rely On God.
Sandy savored life with enthusiasm and curiosity. She had a voracious and almost child-like exuberance for new experiences and learning. Whether Sandy was developing a new creative expression such as painting, knitting, quilting, and crafting; diving deep into a tidal wave of the latest technologies-often rivaling the knowledge of her children and grandchildren; or lovingly connecting with sincere interest in someone's life…she savored every moment. Sandy had an intrinsic understanding that there was simply too much to learn, feel, and do and that every moment was a limited and precious resource. Sandy was also marvelously organized in managing her time and other resources; and her uncanny ability to "fit 10 lbs. of crap into a 5 lb. tin" was legendary.
Sandy's husband, Norm, preceded her in death, and she is survived by her brother Richard Mitchell (Gail), and sisters Dixie Dansie (Richard), and Mary Egan (Robin). She leaves behind her four favorite sons, #1 favorite son Craig (Christine), #2 favorite son David (Nicole), #3 favorite son Brent, and #4 favorite son Benjamin (Cathy), along with her 12 favorite grandchildren, and 4 favorite great grandchildren.
Those wishing to honor and remember Sandy may join us in a public viewing on Thursday, February 20th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful, Utah. A formal funeral service will not be held, in keeping with Sandy's wishes. There will, however, be a brief graveside service on Friday, February 21st at 11:00 am at the Bountiful City Cemetery.
For those whose circumstances may not allow you to attend her services, please know that Sandy's love continues for you and through you. We invite you to mindfully love, care for, and serve one another, thus keeping the world bright in Sandy's absence.
