Shannon Fisher Crist

Our loving Mother, Grandmother, friend and servant of the Lord, slipped ever so peacefully beyond the veil of this life and into life eternal. She was surrounded by our love as she passed on February 14^th, 2021, in Cedar Park, Texas.

Shannon Fisher Crist was born on September 23^rd, 1943 to Alice Rufener and Royal Pierce Fisher in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was the second of eight children and the oldest daughter–an incredible help to her mother. She loved time with her family and extended family.

Our Mom excelled at everything she did. She loved playing the accordion, dancing, cooking, drill team, madrigals, skiing and family trips to the lake. She was an exceptional student and showed kindness to all. Our Mother attended Weber State and Utah State Universities where she continued to excel academically. She worked at Hill Air Force Base and loved raising her oldest son Matt so near to her parents in beautiful Mountain Green, Utah.

Mom had many opportunities to travel and live abroad. Her second son Brad was born while she lived in Germany and even with two little ones she traveled all across Europe. After returning stateside she made a home in Bountiful, Utah where her youngest children Scott and Ashley were born. She loved living near her older brother Lynn and her heart was broken when he left this life for the next after his heroic battle with cancer.

Mother worked incredibly hard for our family and faced trials that would have caused many to lose their faith; however, her faith in God never wavered and with a willing heart, she accepted every call to serve our Savior. She loved serving the children, youth and adults in the neighborhood and Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She treasured her service in the Lord’s House and found fulfilling joy in family history work.

Mom enjoyed traveling and her favorite trips were spent with her children and grandchildren or going to visit them. She loved when we all lived nearby and she was able to have everyone over for Sunday dinners.

In 2006, her youngest son, our brother, Scott, died leaving behind a beautiful young family. Part of her heart was crushed in a way that could only be healed through Christ and a long-awaited heavenly reunion. Knowing he was waiting for her on the other side gave her great peace in her final days.

Mom moved to Salt Lake City, Utah in 2015 and loved living in the same area where her Grandmother lived until she passed on in 1991. Mom worked as a legal secretary until 2015 when she was diagnosed with cancer. Even during her treatment she enjoyed time with her family more than anything.

Our Mother was a quiet servant of the Lord and preferred to do acts of kindness without being seen. When she was asked to preside over the women’s organization of her congregation at age 74, she felt very inadequate but accepted the call to serve without hesitation and served valiantly knowing that the Lord was at the helm. She made wonderful friendships and found great purpose in her service of the Lord.

Mom was diagnosed with interstitial lung disease in 2018 and never complained of the pain she was in even though it prevented her from doing many of the things she loved and being with loved ones before and during the pandemic.

We are so thankful she is no longer in pain, that she had the opportunity to see all her children and grandchildren in the last months of her life and that she knew all of us until the very end. She was grateful beyond measure for that sacred time and the technology that made that possible. We appreciate her caregivers and the many who have reached out to show love and compassion to our Mother and for the countless condolences received. Private services will be held at Russon Brothers Mortuary in Bountiful, Utah on Friday, February 26^th, 2021.

We can only imagine the glorious reunion with Scott, Lynn, her mother and dad and many other friends and relatives. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy of loved ones, especially her children and grandchildren: Matt and Laurel Greaves; Brad, Abby, Olivia, Sienna and Eliza Crist; Jami, Sydney, Stockton, Samantha, Hadyn and Jack Haslem; Ashley, Gregg, Emma, Alexander and Ethan Girvan.

Mom, may you renew your strength…mount up with wings as eagles; that you shall run and not be weary and walk, and not faint. (Isaiah 40:31)
