Layton, Utah- After struggling with stage 4 Lung Cancer, Sharon Duncan Dowdle passed away surrounded by her family. She died at 9:30pm on June 4th, 2021. Sharon was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to Delmar and Lois Duncan.
Sharon graduated from Bountiful High School. Later in life, while still raising her family, she earned an Associate degree in Early Childhood from Weber State University.
She met her ex-husband, Patrick Hugh Dowdle, at a Square-dance club. They loved square dancing together. They were married on January 4, 1974. They moved into their Layton home in 1977. She later divorced Patrick in 1992.
She was an extraordinary mother to 5 daughters, and she did her best to raise them in the gospel. She had 22 grandchildren. Her family was the joy of her life. She loved spending time with them and making special, personalized books for each of them. Her favorite place was at the Box Elder Campgrounds in Mantua. She loved going camping there with her family.
Sharon and her twin sister, Karon, loved watching the Winter Olympics. So, when Salt Lake City hosted the Winter Olympics in 2002, They took the opportunity to serve as drivers in the transportation department, where they drove athletes from venue to venue. They met a lot of wonderful people and had an amazing experience that they will never forget.
For nearly 30 years she dedicated her life to the early childhood profession. She retired from Davis School District with their Head Start Program in June of 2012. There she was graced with amazing work associates and friends that shared that same love of children. She is eternally grateful for their friendship.
She continued to work with young children as a tutor at Vae View Elementary where she loved the children and people she worked with.
Sharon found Joy in sewing, scrapbooking, camping, and spending time with her family. She loved Christmastime because of the lights, smells, and giving of gifts. She especially loved Christmas music and celebrating the birth of her Savior, Jesus Christ.
She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served in various positions in the primary and Relief Society. She had a very strong testimony of her Savior. She loved reading the scriptures.
Sharon is survived by her children; Stacie (Jeff) Chidester, Cindy (Tracy) Charlton, Mindi (Rick) Bingham, Tami (Shaun) Eck, Heidie (Nathan) Ball, and her 22 Grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings; Maree Brunetti, Verlon (Helen) Duncan, Charlene (Earl) Oldroyd, Karon Peckham, Pat Child, Jolene (Dave) Sward. She was proceeded in death by her parents; Delmar and Lois Duncan and Brother-in-Laws; Mike Child and Albert Brunetti.
