1939 Sharon 2023

Sharon Wynder Pettey

November 21, 1939 — June 16, 2023

Centerville, UT

Sharon Wynder Pettey slipped through the veil on June 16, 2023, to a joyous reunion with her sweetheart of 64 years, Ronald V. Pettey, with her parents, with her sister, with her granddaughter, and with her grateful Heavenly Father.

Sharon was born to Max & Ruth Wynder in Cardston, Canada on November 21, 1939.  Her childhood in a small farming community surrounded by cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents, blessed Sharon with memories, values, and cherished relationships that sustained her throughout her life.

Ever a Canadian at heart, at the age of 12, in 1951, Sharon moved with her family to the United States where her intellect, humor, energy, personality, and faith grew daily.  Sharon’s movie-star good looks first caught Ron’s eye at a church youth activity.  Their love blossomed and on June 12, 1959, Ron and Sharon were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple.

Sharon worked as PTA President, started her own sucker company, and worked as an Executive Secretary for Key Bank.  True to her powerful testimony, Sharon also worked selflessly for the Lord in many callings including Relief Society and Young Women’s President, Road Show director, and Sunday School and Primary Teacher.  Sharon’s Christ-like ministering built lifelong friendships and blessed many lives.  Sharon was a great listener, a faithful friend, a caring mother, and a passionate participator in the great outdoors.

Sharon & Ron’s home was blessed with six children – Tammy, Russ, Rhonda, Missy, Greg, and Brenda.  Soon enough, those six became twelve – Bud & Tammy Matheson, Russ & Keiko Pettey, Rhonda & Todd Petersen, Bret & Missy Hickenlooper, Greg & Katie Pettey, and Brenda & David Weekes.  …and the twelve gave Sharon forty-eight grandchildren and thirty-six great-grandchildren!

Sharon found great joy in being a grandmother and great-grandmother.  Sharon loved to gather her family together.  She was a master at creating memories and traditions still treasured by her family today. Heritage, posterity, and the gospel were everything to Sharon.  Sharon worked tirelessly gathering and sorting photographs, life sketches, and memories.  Her personal journal is legendary.

Were Sharon to share her testimony today or offer any of her famous advice, it would include any one of her collected quotes on walking the covenant path, on being kind and accepting to others, on being positive and courageous in the face of adversity, on sharing laughter and service at every opportunity, on cherishing and honoring your heritage, and on faithful devotion to the Lord and His teachings.  Thus is the legacy of Sharon Wynder Pettey.

The Pettey family would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the entire staff of the Legacy House at Park Lane and Inspiration Hospice for the compassion and tender care provided.

A viewing will be held Sunday, June 25th, 2023, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main Street, Bountiful, UT 84010.  Friends and family may also come Monday, June 26th, 2023, from 9:30am to 10:30am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Chapel, 900 South 400 East, Centerville, UT 84014 prior to the celebration of Sharon’s life at 11:00 at the same location.
