1948 Shauna 2024

Shauna Lynn Hayward Clawson

May 20, 1948 — August 22, 2024

Centerville, UT

Shauna Lynn Hayward Clawson was born on May 20, 1948, to Aldin and Etta Hayward in Salt Lake City, Utah. Shauna cherished her parents deeply and relished every moment of her childhood. As the youngest of six daughters, she enjoyed the special place of being the “caboose,” often being spoiled and adored. On August 22, 2024, Shauna passed away from cardiac arrest. Shauna’s family and friends will miss the way this beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend was always pulling her loved ones continually towards good times and deeper connection-connection that will endure forever.

Growing up in Bountiful, where her parents ran Hayward’s Market, Shauna graduated from Bountiful High School in 1966. She went on to work for Sears, attended business school, and subsequently worked for Wonder Bread and Discover Card. She also enjoyed selling handmade items at various boutiques.

In 1975, Shauna settled in Centerville to remain close to her family. Shauna spent her remaining years there, dedicated to raising her five daughters, who were her whole world. Everything she did revolved around them, and eventually HER grandchildren. Her home became a cherished gathering place for family, friends, and ward members, especially on Sunday evenings, where games were played, laughter echoed, and there was always a great variety of tasty treats.

Shauna had a deep and abiding testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ was a valued member of the Centerville 2nd Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She proudly followed her mother, Etta, into membership in the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She made her ancestors proud through her passion for sewing and quilting, sharing the latter interest with her sister, Ilene.

Shauna's long-lasting friendships were a cornerstone of her life. Her special group of friends, many of whom were like sisters to her, provided unwavering support through both joyful and challenging times. Enjoying weekly lunches at Taco Time, hosting game nights, and car rides to get onion rings and Diet Coke, these friendships enriched her life immeasurably.

Sewing was at the heart of Shauna’s existence. She took immense pride in creating blankets, quilts, wedding and dance dresses, costumes, baptism and blessing dresses, and knitted Christmas socks for her family. Her talent extended to her community by making many madrigal dresses, quilts, and performing alterations on clothing. She impacted so many lives with her talent. Her “Love to Sew” sticker on her vehicle was a testament to this life-long love. Looking back at the life Shauna stitched together, trimming and shaping and connecting and creating to the end, we see the beauty of that legacy clearly. And we are so grateful.

Shauna is survived by her five daughters: Tiffany (Todd) Sherwood, Kymberly (Brad) Burgess, Lesley (Travis) Pugh, Tawny (Nate) Winter, and Lyndsey (Aaron) Johnson; as well as grandchildren Cortlan (Ashley), Cade and Cole Sherwood; Harley, Porter, Leila, and Sierra Burgess; Bentley, Jonas, Scarlett, and Leo Pugh; Mara, Enzo, and Arlo Winter; and Lauren, Kate, Van, and Carter Johnson. She is also survived by sisters Verlene Beck and Gayle (Darrell) Bailey, brother-in-law Dennis King, and many nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved. She was preceded in death by her parents, Aldin and Etta Hayward; her sisters Aldene Hayward, Elaine Young, and Ilene King; nephews Kevin King and Brian Beck; and great-nephew Brock Beck.

Shauna’s infectious smile, joyful laugh, and welcoming personality will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
