With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beautiful strong mother, Sheila Kay Powell Reisbeck of Helena, MT. She gained her wings on August 12, 2024, not long after celebrating her 82nd birthday.
Sheila was born on July 14, 1942, in Salt Lake City, UT to Alton Parley and Alice Burningham Powell. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and not long after graduating from Bountiful High School married her childhood sweetheart, Gerald Raymond Reisbeck on January 14, 1961. She was the proud mother of 8 children, the grandmother of 17, the great-grandmother of 28, and great-great-grandmother of 1. In addition, Sheila along with husband Jerry created a loving and caring environment for foster children across Montana for 17 years.
Besides devoting her life as a wife and mother she was also a very savvy businesswoman. She helped run their family businesses in both Kaysville and Bountiful, UT, but in 1974 they moved their growing family to Helena to follow Jerry’s passion in the insurance industry. This is where Sheila started Kiddieville Daycare in Helena, and families were very lucky to have her care for their children for many years and she did this all while raising a large family of their own. In 1982 Sheila and Jerry started a dance/drill team for young girls in the Helena community called the “RAZZLE DAZZLES.” They were also the original founders of the Festival of Trees which was a fundraising event for the Razzle Dazzles.
Sheila was a very unselfish individual and would do what she could to try to help others. She always enjoyed spending time in her motorhome at the lake where you could always come out and she would have her famous shrimp salad, potato salad, taco salad and beans ready and available for anyone who showed up, even unannounced. Family was very important to Sheila, and she could pull together large gatherings at their home with all of their family who enjoyed her amazing favorite foods that everyone loved. Sunday gatherings were the best to catch up with everyone over dinner with stories and laughter.
Sheila was preceded in death by her daughter Lisa; her husband Gerald Reisbeck; brother Dennis; her mother Alice Powell; father Alton Powell; mother-in-law Elizabeth Reisbeck; father-in-law Raymond Reisbeck; sister-in-law Judy Reisbeck; brother-in-law’s Paul Stephenson and Scott Bodell; nephew Dustin Cheney; nieces Reagan Cheney and Christy Shoquist.
Sheila is survived by sons, Kevin (Toni); Kelly (Jody); Kasey (Tabatha); Kirk (TBD?); Kimball (Tasa); daughters, Desiree and Lindsay. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. Sisters, Peggy Stephenson of Farmington, UT; Debbie Bodell of Roy, UT; brother-in-law Dixon Reisbeck (Ruth) of Layton, UT; sister-in-law Lynda Reisbeck of Helena, MT. Along with numerous nieces and nephews. Sheila was lucky enough to stay in close contact to two of her cousins that were more like sisters/best friends to her, Pam Barton and Jennie Harwood.
You were so loved and will be dearly missed. There is something about losing a mother that is permanent and inexpressible, a wound that will never quite heal. Our lives are forever changed and our hearts are broken. Thank you for being the very best that any of us could have ever asked for.
