Sheila Steiner

February 5, 1941 — August 9, 2021

SERVICES HAVE BEEN CHANGED TO AUGUST 28, 2021

Sheila was born on February 5th, 1941 in Lava Hot Springs, Idaho, to Parley Thorderson and Winona Seely Thorderson. The third of six children. She passed away peacefully on August 9th, 2021 at the McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden Utah due to complications from the COVID virus. Sheila grew up in Kaysville, Utah and she graduated from Davis High School in 1959. Following high school, she attended Weber State College for two years and graduated with a two-year degree. Following her time at Weber State, she moved to Logan to continue her education at Utah State University. After attending Utah State for one year, she accepted the call to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to the Northwestern States Mission.
Upon returning home from her mission, she was staying with her family in Logan while her father was attending summer school at Utah State. One day that summer, she took her little brother to the Adams School Park to play on the merry-go-round. While at the park, she was recognized by a fellow missionary, DeVon Steiner, who was working as the groundskeeper at the park. During that visit to the park, they talked for an hour discussing their missions.
That fall she re-enrolled at Utah State and DeVon and Sheila had their first official date as DeVon asked her to the Homecoming Dance. They continued to date until they were engaged the following May, just prior to graduating from Utah State University with a degree Secondary Education specializing in Home Economics. For the next year she taught at a junior high school near Vernal, Utah while DeVon finished his education at Utah State.
Immediately following DeVon’s graduation from Utah State University, they were married on June 9, 1966 for time and all eternity in the Logan, Utah Temple. After their marriage, they moved to Denver for six months, after which they moved back to Utah for DeVon to take employment with the Internal Revenue Service which lasted for the next 35 years. Fourteen months after their marriage, they welcomed a 9-pound baby boy into their family whom they named Shawn. Over the next 8 years they welcomed three more children Nanette, Stacey, and Todd.
When Shawn was about 8 months old, they purchased a house around the corner from their apartment in Bountiful, where they have lived for the last for 54 years. During that time, Sheila has been active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, holding numerous callings within the Bountiful 15th Ward.
In 2002, Sheila and DeVon completed a goal of serving a second mission together. They were called to serve an 18-month mission to the Kentucky Louisville Mission. While serving in Louisville, they served as a senior couple in the mission office overseeing missionary finances and operations. Upon returning from their mission in Kentucky, they have enjoyed their retirement and have focused on their role as grandparents and great grandparents.
Sheila is survived by her husband, DeVon and their children, Shawn (Melanie), Stacey (Randy), and Todd (Tricia), 12 grand children and 10 great grand children. She was preceded in death by her father, her daughter Nanette, a brother and two sisters.
