Our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and daughter Sherlyn Dee Brown Marks, age 77, passed away peacefully at home on November 22, 2024.
Sherlyn was born on November 25, 1946 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Dale Stevens and Chrystal Dastrup Brown. Sherlyn married Jerry Marks on September 10, 1968 in the Salt Lake Temple. They were later divorced. They were blessed with two sons Jeff and Greg. Their family memories were filled with golf foursomes, Utah Basketball games, and trips to Jackson Hole and San Diego.
She worked for many years as an academic advisor in the Political Science Department at the University of Utah and as an Administrative Assistant for the Welfare Department for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. After her retirement, she enjoyed working at TJ Maxx and Marshalls. She cherished the dear friendships she made working at every job she had.
Sherlyn loved to travel especially to Hawaii, San Diego, Disneyland and Snowbird. She enjoyed running, playing golf, crocheting, reading, watching movies, and attending her grandson’s football, basketball, soccer, and baseball games.
She had a deep and abiding testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, which she shared often, especially in her weekly Sunday text messages to her family. After her retirement, she served a mission at the Church Office Building in Salt Lake City, where she deepened her love and devotion of prophets, apostles, and the Atonement of Jesus Christ. She served lovingly in many callings as she had a ministering heart and strived daily to emulate Jesus Christ.
She loved America and had a very tender, patriotic heart. She was a great cook with family favorites including her chocolate chip cookies, buttermilk brownies, and cheesy meatloaf. She loved all things chocolate and enjoyed fun family dinners with her kids, grandkids, and siblings.
We are profoundly grateful to her dear friends at the Riley Court Apartments in Bountiful and all her dear bishops she had over the years that loved and served her with kindness, patience, tenderness, and love.
She is survived by her two sons: Jeff (Roslynn) Marks, Greg (Lisa) Marks. Her six grandsons: Brad (Molly) Marks, Max (Bethany) Marks, Josh (Bekah) Marks, Sam (Alexandra) Marks, Ryan (Kenna) Marks, and Andrew (Brooke) Marks, 3 great-grandchildren, Carter Marks, Navie Marks, and Cooper Marks; her brothers David (Laura) Brown, Doug Brown, her sisters-in law Karen Brown and Beverlee Brown, and many loving nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Dale and Chrystal Brown, and her brothers Dale Brown Jr. and Dwight Brown. Sherlyn is finally at peace and is enjoying a joyous reunion with her loved ones she missed so dearly, She will be greatly missed.
A private family graveside service will be held at the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
