Sherman Alex Alexander, 91, passed away at home on March 7, 2023, with his loving family by his side, from complications of Dementia.
Sherm was born February 27, 1932, in Blocker, Oklahoma, to Columbus Alex Alexander and Mary Gibbs. Sherm followed his older brothers to Bountiful, Utah, when he was fifteen years old. At the age of twenty, the love of his life Merrilyn Jackson rolled up to his car window, as a carhop, and asked, “Can I take your order?” That was the beginning of their story. They were married on May 2, 1953, and were blessed with five beautiful children; Terri, Kym, Kellie, LeeAnne and Jake. Sherm’s love ran deep for his family. He especially loved hearing the laughter coming from his children as they gathered together throughout the years.
Sherm was an avid hunter and fisherman, liking nothing better than to be outdoors, whether at home or in the mountains. His passion was collecting rocks, which may have been inspired by his great love for Southern Utah.
Sherm was a patriot. He joined the United States Army and served honorably. He was proud of his service and would share stories of the good old Army days. During the early stages of dementia he could be heard reciting his Army tag numbers to test his memory.
He worked for B & K Drywall for 50 years, and was in high demand because of his excellent skills. He will forever be remembered as a kind, honest, witty, hard-working man whose word meant everything. Above all of his many wonderful qualities his love for his family could never be questioned.
If you knew him you loved him. He was loved so completely by his family. That love provides his family some peace knowing that he knew of their love for him.
Sherm was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Ernie, Cleve, Carl and Jack Alexander; one sister, Lorene Street; and his granddaughter Meghann Titensor.
He is survived by his wife Merrilyn; his family, Terri and (Allan) Bird, Kym and (Jeff) Fry, Kellie Erickson, LeeAnne and (Mark) Adams, and Jake Alexander; one sister, Irene Allen; thirteen grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.
