Sherman Glen Holmes our beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, brother and friend returned to his Heavenly Father on December 16, 2014. Alzheimer Disease had for the past five years gradually clouded his brilliant intellect, stolen away lifelong friendships and erased cherished memories. Sherm was born on September 17, 1933 in Ogden, Utah to Orville (Pete) Holmes and Leila Stanger. After graduation from Weber High School in 1951 he attended Weber College. Sherm served an honorable mission in the Central States 1954-1956 under the guidance of President Alvin R. Dyer. He married Carolyn Wall October 16, 1956 in the Logan LDS Temple. Sherm graduated from Weber College and then served in the U.S. Navy and worked in the Electrical Engineering Dept at the U of U for 47 years. Spending time with his family was his greatest pleasure, they were his life. He enjoyed participating in baseball and basketball as well as coaching. He also enjoyed camping, hiking, fishing and gardening. He was an active member of the Bountiful 27th ward for 50 years. He served in a Bishopric, Stake Sports Director and Stake Activities Chairman. He was an excellent teacher and loved working with the youth.
He is survived by his sweetheart Carolyn and their children. Melanie (Brett) Frasier, Brent Holmes, Jeff (Stacy) Holmes, and Blake Holmes. Brothers – Ron (Dixie) Holmes, Reed (Brenda) Holmes. Sisters – Marilyn Walters and Lois (Larry) Huston. Sherm was preceded in death by twin sons, Bruce and Boyd, his parents and a brother Lamont.
The family would like to thank his caregivers and the staff at Legacy House and at Canyon Hospice, especially Kimmy and Megan.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 22, 2014 at the Bountiful 27th Ward, 1145 No. 200 E. A viewing will be held Sunday evening 5:00 – 7:00 at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main and Monday morning from 9:45 – 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to the services.
If desired, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the LDS Missionary Fund or to the Alzheimers Association.
