Shirley Alice Flanders Haslam passed away on October 21, 2017, after a valiant struggle with Alzheimer's.
Shirley was born on October 7, 1932 to Stephen and Mary Flanders in Tooele, Utah. She grew up in Tooele with her four cherished siblings. She married her sweetheart Harold on November 6, 1953, later sealed in the Salt Lake temple, and their adventure began. Together they created a wonderful home in Centerville for their two sons.
Shirley worked for many decades for the Union Pacific Railroad and enjoyed having lots of responsibility, and was a forerunner as a lady in management. She was an avid University of Utah fan, rarely missing any football, basketball, or gymnastic events. Shirley led an active life and enjoyed tap dancing, square dancing, golf, crocheting, playing cards, and being with friends. Her home and yard were always meticulous, and she was an amazing cook.
Shirley had a strong and unwavering testimony and served in many church positions. Her most reminisced calling was with the young women. Shirley and Harold greatly enjoyed their time serving as volunteers in the membership department for the church, where she was very loved.
Being a devoted grandma, Shirley supported her seven grandchildren in all of their activities, and filled their lives with wonderful and cherished memories. She will be dearly missed.
Shirley is survived by her son Tim (Patricia) of Bountiful, four grandsons, three granddaughters, brother Jay, her loved family, and countless friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, son Steve (LaDon) of Texas, parents, brother, and sisters.
Shirley's legacy of love, kindness, service, generosity, and devotion to her family and friends will live on in our hearts forever. She was a friend to all she met and has truly enriched the lives of all who have known her.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, October 28, 2017, at Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful. Family and friends may call prior to the service from 12:30 pm – 1:45 pm. Interment in the Centerville cemetery.
